    Hello Legion Gamers!

The Game Awards 2024 voting is over, and the results are in! This time around, Astro Bot won the GOTY. This caused a bit of an argument as many gamers thought Black Myth: Wukong is more deserving (it seems you are not alone @GoLLuM13 😉), though Black Myth: Wukong got the gamer's choice award.

The ceremony itself was decent with 46% of viewers giving it a top score. They liked that this time around no one told winners to hurry up with their speeches (some of you may recall there was a bit of a scandal about this last time) and that the host did not ignore the current problem of redundancies and studio closures in the industry and touched on that directly. But there were some negative comments too, particularly when the most expected trailer (GTA 6) was not announced or that some nominations were too hectic. Check ot the full ceremony here:

Speaking of trailers, a lot of interesting things this time. We finally know that Ciri will be the protagonist of the next Witcher game, got to see some Mafia: The Old Country, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Outer Worlds 2 (with some proper gameplay this time) and Project Century (what do you think about that one, @ZaidH?), among other things.

For me, the awards ceremony had 2 highlights. The first one was that The Last of Us Part II is coming to PC, so soon I will finally be able to try out that series (I have not played part 1 and was waiting for this to happen first) and that Metaphor: ReFantazio won the best RPG, which gives me a reason to try it, I was wary of it before. What about you, anything in the event stands out to you?

@DoctorEldritch Black Myth Wukong d'intérieur get the GOTY award and Astro Bot did, what a surprise, if you remember I called it, and said that it will happen like this 😂
But at least it's not a DLC that got the award 👀

Eh, give it time, they'll get there 😅

In all seriousness though, they really should make a separate DLC category.

Is any trailer particularly exciting to you this time around?

@DoctorEldritch I personally really liked the event this time! Things got a little boring in the middle of the show, but the rest was great.

And yes, PROJECT CENTURY—HOLY PEPPERONI!!!!! RGG folks are absolute wizards. If the game looks and plays like they showed, I'm getting it Day 1! I love how brutal the combat feels with all the blood flying around and the bruises on the thugs. That Mafia trailer was pretty bomb as well. Though people have been saying it’ll be much more linear and not open world like the previous games, so that has me a little deflated. Got hyped for The Witcher 4, but I had to remind myself to calm down since that game isn’t coming out anytime soon 😅

@ZaidH Well, these days it'd be sus if everything went smoothly 😅

I thought you might be excited about Project Century. Hopefully, it will fly for them, after Judgement went bust.

Personally, I do not mind Mafia being more linear, it was always about the story anyway. If this will make the setting more detailed and vibrant, then less may be more. Besides, the setting sort of calls for it, 1900s Sicily is more pastoral, cars are not as widespread yet, no skyscrapers like in America, you know, it is easier to design a more "closed" world organically in that setting.

True, but I am happy we get to play as Ciri, someone we know, and not that rumour that we'll be a "nameless new Witcher", so that's a relief.

@DoctorEldritch Where's your hype level at for Project Century? Did you like the setting and the combat they showed?

So apparently, I have the reading comprehension of a potato because I thought Mafia was going fully linear, like Uncharted. Turns out it's more like Mafia 1 and 2, so that's amazing!

Oh yeah, it's a relief that Ciri will be carrying Geralt's torch.

@SebSab Witcher 4 is still ways off, maybe there will be an Armored Core update sometime soon, maybe something PS exclusive?

@ZaidH I liked the period most of all, early 20th century Japan is not featured in games nearly enough, and after what they did in Yakuza 0 I think they can do a good job in recreating that era.

Yeah, they are not going fully linear, but not fully open-world either. I think that's a good thing, there are so many open-world games these days, and many do not get it right either, aiming for quantity over quality. A game without all that with a good story will be refreshing.

And it's a plus that we know for sure Geralt will be there too, though we do not know in what capacity.

@DoctorEldritch Oh yeah, now that you mention it, I can't think of any other game set in that period. Rise of Ronin comes close, but it also lacks the heavy industrial theme. By the way, I've seen speculations that the game is set in Kamurocho, but 100 years in the past 😮

Agreed 100%. Mafia 3 strayed from that path, and look where it ended up 😓

Doug Cockle is probably locked up in CDPR's dungeon for letting that Geralt bit slip 😶
