Hello Legion Gamers!

Seems that February is the month of Romance not only for us: EGS is giving away Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! just in time for Valentine's. Which is...to be honest, a bit creepy.

But that got me thinking about how different games use romance elements. Doki Doki is probably a special case as romance there comes in a mix with psychological horror, and while interesting examples like that, not necessarily limited to horror combos, are well worth listing (know any?), if we generalize, I think games that have romantic elements in them would usually go about it in one of two ways:

The first one is when romance is the main element of gameplay or a major part of it. Dating Sims are like that, for example, Monster Prom. Or games like Haven, where the gameplay may not be focused on that, but the game is essentially a love story.

And the second one is where romance is an additional and sometimes optional element in a larger game. Like choosing between Yen and Triss in Witcher or having a romance in Bioware games: it is not strictly necessary to win the game, but the option is there and it helps immersion for RPGs. But there are also some RPGs where the love story is scripted, like in Tales of Arise, where certain characters will end up together whether you like it or not.

And those are just some examples of the tip of the romance iceberg, surely there are many more that can be listed. So this is the place to collect them and to see how we like romance in the games we play. With a poll!
