    Hello Legion Gamers!

Today is the day of the Witcher, it seems. Or, as it is Halloween, you may call it the Witching Hour! 😉

Whatever we call it, the news is coming from all sides about this franchise. Just recently a 2007 game remake was announced (will you play it?), and this Saturday yet more news: Henry Cavill is retiring as the iconic Witcher!

Yes, the Man of Steel will not return as Geralt in Witcher Season 4 and the role will be played by Liam Hemsworth. Not sure if it is a schedule conflict or some other reason, but this is where we are right now.

I wonder how they would play it out in a series, if at all. Geralt is not the Doctor to regenerate every few seasons: they may address this change, or just ignore it, as they did with Grindevald in the last Harry Potter movie.

Personally, I am not sure what to think. I think the series is not bad but does have some odd casting choices to me (Triss, I am looking at you!), so this is just one more of those.

What do you think, maybe Liam Hemsworth would actually make a decent Witcher?
    Or not?

I read an article (in Polish) that it might be a scheduling conflict that made Henry Cavill resign.

I guess time will tell how the recasting works out.

@Saka I am always sceptical when something like this happens, but it would be nice to be proven wrong for once.

Sometimes recasts bring more charismatic character in. In the Harry Potter movies the Dumbledore from 3rd movie onwards was very different, but I think he actually gave the character more energy and flavour. The Dumbledore from Richard Harris was quite static, then Michael Gambon portrayed him as old, yet still lively man.

@Saka True, but with Richard Harris, it is a bit more complicated because he died (RIP) soon after, he might have stayed in the role longer if he could, maybe.

And as they were making movies while books were still being written, they could not well plan ahead for those things, Dumbledore got more importance and meaning in later books, they may not have anticipated how lively he should be when casting initially.

Although, Rowling did have a private meeting with Alan Rickman before filming and revealed to him her plans about Snape's motivation and backstory, that allowed Alan to portray that character more dimensionally throughout the whole story, the way it was supposed to be. Not sure why she did not do the same with Dumbledore, maybe she did not have a proper plan for him yet.

Either way, let's see what happens...

@DoctorEldritch True, it's a complicated story. It's also possible that the script for the character for the first two movies was not great. A lot of protagonists have developed through the story.

I think with that being said, the switch still didn't make the character worse, just quite different. It was a bit disorienting at first, then it became the new normal.

@Saka True, but then again, Dumbledore is not the main character. He became increasingly important later on, but he was never the main character, so replacing him did not get that much of a reaction. Imagine if they replaced Daniel Radcliffe, I imagine the reaction would be different.

Geralt is the main character and an integral part of the story, replacing his actor is a more...cardinal? But as you said, so long as it does not make the character worse.

There's already a petition to fire the writers and get Henry Cavill back https://gamerant.com/henry-cavill-le...ralt-petition/ 😅
