Has anyone ever come to a point in a game where you do not have the ability to move on in a specific mission and get stuck for ages?

Have you ever used a walkthrough?

I remember old games I've played and struggled to complete. Games like Police Quest, Leasure Suite Larry, and Space Quest are a few games I couldn't finish on my own without a walkthrough.

I needed to find some way to make my play time count and to see how the story and game ended.

Were you like me or was I the only one who needed a little guidance?

Sometimes I get stuck in a puzzle and then check briefly a walkthrough to find the missing piece to save my sanity.

After reading your question, I got 'nam flashbacks from my Monkey Island playthrough. The game had this mechanic called "insult sword fighting" which was nigh impossible to execute without the help of a walkthrough 😅I had to print the dialogue sheet to complete this part of the game😭

Did something similar while playing Elden Ring. The side quests in soulsborne games are so vague (at least for me), but Elden Ring just multiplied that because of the open world design. Had to search for spoiler free side quest walkthrough so that I'd have all the items necessary for the endgame😓

I can't count how many times I used walkthroughs to pass a specific objective...but I remember using it in puzzle based games like Limbo, Inside, Valiant Hearts

@ZaidH Ahh Yes! Monkey Island was one of them I also struggled with. Looking back at some of the older games there were a few challenging ones.

I do agree Elden Ring is a bit vague on the side quests. Another game was Elder scrolls. Some side quests were not easy to find and I also used a walkthrough. Actually, it was more of a map indicating where the side quests are.😂

@M2lobaz sometimes we just have to bend the knee. Give in or struggle, I don't see anything wrong with using walkthroughs. I don't see it as cheating in any way.

On a competitive level maybe yes. Playing solo...not so much! 😁

Puzzle games can be a nightmare.

At the end of the day, you are supposed to play games for fun. If you just spent 30 minutes walking around in the virtual room, looking for something you have missed, and don't have the faintest idea what that could be, it stops being fun. Especially in single player games getting the little bit of help doesn't affect anyone else. But even in MMOs some puzzles end up being so ridiculous that there are whole communities dedicated to solving them, and it'd be pretty much impossible for a single person to figure them out without a guide.

@Saka I agree with you 100%. Having fun is the main goal. A walkthrough now and then comes in handy and not hurting anyone.

There are people who take things too seriously and will criticise you for using a guide to complete a certain task. They don't bother me at all LOL!!

Hope you're having a great day so far. 😁

Some people are just the fun police. Best to ignore them. 😩

I am excited to have some workout tonight. Hopefully your day is going well too!
