    Hello Legion Gamers!

Congratulations everyone on a nice day for every gamer: today is Video Games Day! Yes, it's a thing!

The history of the day dates back to 1991 when it began being held each July, which was later changed to September in 1996. On this day, gamers around the globe celebrate it by playing video games (no surprise there!).

It can be playing a game with your favorite character, or playing online games with friends, or joining an online gaming community (you've all done that, I hope 😉), or simply talking about video games! Or any other gaming-related activity! Even watching a series about games (like The Mythic Quest) or reading (or watching) Ready Player One counts! There is no wrong way to celebrate!

But that is not all! on this day, gamers also like to reflect on how much video games evolved over the years and remember different milestones that video games went through over the years and other game-related trivia! Here is a couple for you:

    • The first commercial arcade game was named Computer Space and was released in 1971 by Nutting Associates.
    • In 1972, Magnavox released the first video game system for home use, which sold 100.000 copies (costing $100 each) in the first year.
    • Donkey Kong debuted in 1981 and was the first game to feature the character, Mario.
And dozens of others! In fact, there is a whole Video Games Foundation dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and teaching the history of video games. So if you want to learn more about this wonderful hobby (or even profession), take a look!

And now, to get into the spirit of the day and tick that "talk about video games" celebration point, why not share what is your favorite game-related trivia fact? Here is one from me, inspired by the discussion about the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage:

The Assassin's Creed series was supposed to be a spinoff of the Prince of Persia titled simply Prince of Persia: Assassins. The story was supposed to be about a female assassin who protects the Prince, but Ubisoft did not like that the story shifted away from the Prince and reworked the concept. And the game world got richer for it.

    What about you?
What is your favorite game fact?

Most interesting fact for me ..
in past times games were considered as a kids thing but as for a statistic study .. average gamer age now is above 30 years old.
it's funny and weird atthe same time how human mind accepted gaming really quick as an entertainment industry for all ages (kids/youth/elders..) further more it's now being a competetive professional sport (esport games) that makes us wonder how will be the gaming industry in the near and far future? will it remain the same or it will get some revolutionary changes? Time will tell.

@M2lobaz in the past and now...could it be that it's just that those kids who played video games when it was considered a kids thing simply grew up but did not give up on their hobby, so now those kids are that 30+ gamers?

that's true.. they also helped improving gameplay, story, graphics by giving feedbacks that positively encouraged game developers to invest time and resources in game development

@M2lobaz it would be interesting to take a look at the age of average developers and indie developers, not just gamers, for comparison. Maybe there is such a statistic somewhere. It is interesting to know the age of the people who play games, but how it correlates to the average age of people who make games would be another interesting insight.

I still have a very old Atari 2600 console and it still works. Taking a look at this console now shows how much games and hardware evolved. It also makes me feel old LOL!! It was one of the first ever machines I had the opportunity to play games on. After the console, I got an XT PC with floppy drives then as the years went on I moved over to 286,486 and Pentium PCs. The list goes on.

This reminds me of a George Bernard Shaw quote:

Despite him living during a time with no video games, I still think it is very applicable.
