@ZaidH George Mikes has other such observation, the tea may be one of the best, though. How to be an Alien is a good book 😊

@ZaidH wanted to review this thread a bit, but this time, rather than giving my own advice, here is one from
Daniel Vávra (one of the creators of Kingdom Come Deliverence:

He likes Andrzej Sapkowski, but suggested his other series rather than the famous Witcher 😉

    @DoctorEldritch
Reinmar of Bielawa, sometimes known as Reynevan, is a doctor, a magician and, according to some, a charlatan. And when a thoughtless indiscretion finds him caught in the crosshairs of powerful noble family, he is forced to flee his home.

But once he passes beyond the city borders, he finds that there are dangers ahead as well as behind. Strange mystical forces are gathering in the shadows.

Pretty generic so far eh....wait HOLUP

And pursued not only by the affronted Stercza brothers, bent on vengeance, but also by the Holy Inquisition, Reynevan finds himself in the Narrenturm, the Tower of Fools.

The Tower is an asylum for the mad, or for those who dare to think differently and challenge the prevailing order. And escaping the Tower, avoiding the conflict around him, and keeping his own sanity might prove a greater challenge than Reynevan ever imagined.

I'm very intrigued! Some reviews mention that the MC is like Dandelion from the Witcher series so that's pretty hype.

@ZaidH Chronologically, Andrzej Sapkowski wrote this trilogy after the main Witcher series, so Dandelion could have been an inspiration. I got intrigued and want to read it now. I am still working my way through the Thursday Next series, but I'll read this trilogy after I am done with that.

@DoctorEldritch Nice! I’ll probably be done with The Light Fantastic (just finished Stormlight Book Five recently) by the time you’re well into The Tower of Fools. I’ll trust your impressions over the Goodreads reviews 😄

@ZaidH I doubt it'd be bad, Sapkowski is a good wordsmith, and Daniel Vávra's recommendation is a seal of quality as well. It is more about whether the setting and personal taste work for you with this trilogy, I think. But from the looks of it, this will be something interesting.

I’ll trust your impressions over the Goodreads reviews 😄
    Aww. 😊

@DoctorEldritch So apparently I was living under a rock this whole time and just found out that Vávra was the lead writer for both Mafia 1 and 2 😯 The man definitely knows his storytelling, so yeah, his recommendation of The Tower of Fools carries some serious weight.

Haha your recommendation for the Discworld books has been amazing! I'm about 40 pages into The Light Fantastic, and hooooly moly I’m really digging everything happening around Unseen University 😂

@ZaidH If it makes you feel any better, nor did I. Mafia games are a bit old, when they came out, I was more interested in playing games than learning about who made them. But even without knowing that, just on his work on Kingdom Come Deliverance alone, you can see that he knows what he's talking about.

Glad you like Discworld, and you are just at the beginning, it gets better. Unseen University really begins to shine when it gets a permanent cast after the Moving Pictures book.

@DoctorEldritch Haha glad I wasn’t alone 😄 KCD is sitting right there in my Steam library ready to be played, but GAH, I just can’t commit to it yet 😭

This isn’t a knock against The Color of Magic, but goodness gracious, The Light Fantastic is such a massive step up from it. The story and worldbuilding feel so much tighter. Can’t wait to get to the Moving Pictures book!

@ZaidH Where did we talk about Dave the Diver and Like a Dragon colab? It is out, but I can't remember where we mentioned it 😰

Everyone is collabing with LaD these days, from Dave to Among Us to Fortnite. And they keep using the karaoke motif 😅
