@GoLLuM13 I agree, it's a bit ridiculous. I don't know why things need to be so complicated sometimes. 😂

@DracoTarot Maybe it is important for professional musicians when they like to be very specific about the type of music they play? So in essence those are more of a "work jargon" type of thing?

@DoctorEldritch I think some people go a bit overboard. There's no need for so many subgenres. 😂

Why isn't the opposite of Black metal, White metal? Would it be inappropriate to phrase the two as such?

This leans too much towards how political parties are formed. They have the same values and morals but the slightest disagreements will lead to a divide. 😁

Same with music and its subgenres. Some of these metal genres do not get along with each other and will never play together at concerts.

@DoctorEldritch I'll say (at least for some) it's more about "marketing" to differentiate themselves from others, while they're doing pretty much the same thing 😜

@DoctorEldritch Maybe you're right. It's to emphasise the type of style the band has adapted and this is how a specific subgenre is born.

That would explain why Rob Zombie's music is called Shock Rock and Horror Metal. He is a Horror film producer and make-up artist by profession.

@DoctorEldritch I wonder if I had to form a band of my own and all my members were lightworkers and psychics if it would be appropriate to name our style of music "Tarot Metal." Another subgenre on its own. 😂

@DracoTarot the subgenre would be the Lightwork Psychics Metal and its own subgenre would be the Tarot Metal represented by the Tarot Band 🤣

@DracoTarot Maybe not "White Metal", but there was that Unblack Metal subgenre that I wondered about and why it is not "Light Metal" Or is there already a different "Light Metal" as opposed to "Heavy Metal"? All this is enough to make my head spin...

@GoLLuM13 Maybe it is about marketing, but to me, it reminded me of that joke from Parks & Recreation about the type of music. I could not find the clip with just that joke, but here is a long one, the joke is the first 20 seconds of it:

Actually, this raises an interesting point: what is the core for defining the new subgenre? Music may arguably be similar in some cases, so does it come down to ambience, decor, makeup, costumes, that sort of thing?

What I mean is, would "Tarot Metal" music be different enough to be its own niche in Metal, or will it be the same old Metal but just played by people who know how to do Tarot readings, and that's enough to qualify as a subgenre?

@GoLLuM13 😂😁😅. Yeah, I guess that's how it would be in the end.

@DoctorEldritch Unblack metal is Christian metal while Black metal is all about the evil side of things. So I guess using "Unblack" is a way to show the music style can still be as brutal but without crossing to the dark side.

Light Metal would've made more sense!!

@DoctorEldritch Tarot metal could be a whole new concept on its own. I think it will come down to all the things you have mentioned.
