If some old games could get a really good remake, giving the game a new life, what would you play? It's possible to bring up to the discussions games that did get a remake, but an underwhelming one. An idea remake would be somewhat faithful to the original (I am not opposed to changes if they are sensible), improving on the parts of the game that didn't work well in the original and perhaps even expanding the world. Since we'd be talking about imaginary products, anything is possible!

I think I would like to play The Lord of the Rings games from early 2000s. Unfortunately, as far as I know, they are abandonware. The licensing rights expired. But if it were possible, it would be really cool to play them again, with modern graphics.

@Saka On that front, some games are getting a remake already. @gohan and @DracoTarot and @GoLLuM13 all advised me to play Max Payne, and when I looked into it, I was happy to learn that remakes are on the way.

A similar thing is happening with Splinter Cell. Tom Clancy may not be around anymore (RIP), but his legacy lives on.

As far as what game is currently not in existence or plans I'd want to play, there are many. But to mention 2 of them, the first one would be Red Dead Redemption. We got the second part prequel, but not the original sequel yet. Sad thing is, there were plans to remake and release it for PC, but since GTA remakes were met so poorly (and deservingly so, I may add), those plans were scrapped. Hopefully, they will be picked up again at some point.

The second one would probably be Arachronox. That was one of the fathers of modern BioWare-style gameplay, but at the time of the release, the technology did not yet match the developer's ambition. Now it is more advanced, so there is a potential for a good game there if it were possible. Sadly, not sure about the legal side of things.

And I'd want to play The Lord of the Rings games from the early 2000s, your mentioning it made me interested, but older graphics does put me off.

@Saka This all being said, there is a question here I'd be thankful if you could answer: what is a good remake example to you?

I mean to say, remakes come in several formats. Some just update the graphics, others make small tinkerings like removing commercial posters in the Alan Wake remake, and some like Yakuza Kiwami rework the whole gameplay process and add content.

So when you say "remake", do you mean the same game with modern graphics, or something more substantial?

Some of the games I would like a remake for :
    1. The Greek adventures of Kratos in God of War (with a PC Version) so more people can discover them.
    2. A remake of "Resident Evil: Code Veronica"
    3. Zelda Ocarina of Time

As for what makes a good remake, I think everyone would answer differently. Maybe I could instead give an example of what is NOT a good remake. Warcraft III: Reforged. I haven't encountered a single person satisfied with the game. There were big promises and what was delivered was a rushed, half baked product that looked nowhere close to the reveal videos. Huge performance issues too.

I think generally improving graphics is enough for a remake, sometimes older games suffer from really clunky mechanics, so in those cases imo it's good if the remake addresses it.

@GoLLuM13 I'd want classic God of War too. But Resident Evil is too scary for me (not a fan of horror), and the Zelda series is such a behemoth these days I am afraid to touch it, a bit like Final Fantasy.
