Can you watch The Last of Us series without playing the game?

    Hello Legion Gamers!

On the 16th of January, The Last of Us series has begun, and per popular opinion, it's off to a very good start and has all the components to be a great series. Not to mention it has Pedro "The Mandalorian" Pascal and Nick "Ron Swanson" Offerman, among others!

But this brings me to a personal dilemma. The game that this series is based on is a little old now but never made it to the PC, though there are plans currently in motion to bring it to the PC platform. For this reason, despite it being so popular, I never played it and know nothing about it at all.

So I am not sure what to do: is it better to wait for the game to arrive on PC, play it, and then watch the series to be able to spot all the nuances and easter eggs, or would it be fine to watch the series now, and then maybe play the game when it gets released?

Though not sure how interested I will be in actually playing the game then. It seems that unlike "Dragon Age: Absolution", the series follows the plot of the game rather than telling a separate story in the game world, so I will know all the plot twists, and that is a story-driven game, or so I've heard.

So I thought I'd ask: do we have anyone here who played the game and will watch the series and could advise on the better way to tackle this?

And those who, same as me, have not played the game yet, will you watch the series first, or wait to play?

@DoctorEldritch I'm in the same spot as you at this moment and haven't played the game yet.

I'm also unable to watch the series. No one of the streaming platforms I have has it on the menu.

If I need to go the VPN route to watch the series I rather play the game first. I reckon I'll lose interest in the game if I watch the series.

@DracoTarot Losing interest in the game is one of the things I want to avoid. If I go down that route, I guess I'll have to hide from spoilers while I wait for the game to make it to PC.

@DoctorEldritch The Last of Us looks really good on mobile and I think I'll download the game. If the gameplay is fine on mobile I'll play for a bit. If not I'm going to wait for the PC release.

@DracoTarot I rarely play mobile, the screen is just too small...

I am not a fan of playing on mobile either. It's a literal pain in the neck for me.
I have never played the game, maybe I will if/when it comes to the PC.

About the show, I read some things that a lot of the people are hating on the actor for the looks. That her appearance is not mirroring the game character 1:1. Some people even call her ugly and other things that should not be quoted. It is quite sad.

I wonder how many of the haters would actually make it to the cover of a fashion/lifestyle magazine. 🙄

@DoctorEldritch I agree the screen is too small and also prefer my 27" screen. I mainly play games on my mobile during the power sheds and also when it's time for bed and I can't sleep.

I do not play for hours on end. My hands cramp easily. I like to try out games only released on mobile and see what the fuss is all about.

@Saka it's really sad. People always look for perfection and criticise too much. That's why the world is in the state it is right now. 😶

Perfection also means something else for each person. So it's a bad metric overall.
