@DracoTarot I am honestly not sure what marketing logic was involved when making this decision, but if nothing else, it will be an interesting case study and an illustrative precedent for the future of the consequences of such marketing actions. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

One thing I do know, though, is that you seem to be right about Steam taking advantage of the situation: it just set a record of simultaneous online users: it had over 41 million of them (41,666,455 to be exact):

So it does indeed seem to be doing rather well.

@DoctorEldritch It got even worse. They've decided to exclude some perks on the lower tier subscriptions and add them to the higest ones to force players to upgrade their subscriptions. It's not a good move. Many gamers out there feeling exploited and taking advantage of.

I guess by doing that ratings gonna drop and they'll experience the aftermath.

Well, if there's a opportunity to increase clientele on a fair and honest way, I support it all the way. I applaude STEAM for doing so well.

@DracoTarot Oh my. When it rains, it pours, it seems. But game subscription approach was an experiment in the first place. I mean, it may work, to an extent, for media streaming services, but films and series is a different medium from the games. Subscribing to play a lot of them is not the same as subscribing to watch many shows, the time you spend gaming is different, and the reasons to do so may be different as well. And now they started to tweak the experiment, too. Something may be up. Let's see where it all leads.

I wonder if Steam is the only one doing well right now. How is EGS, for example?
