@DoctorEldritch It may be the circumstances. I guess in certain fields the experts have not choice to share a space with incompetent people. The issue is those incompetent people have more authority over the competent ones and it makes it much more difficult. Sometimes it about who wears the pants in the family and who wants to score the most browny points even if they know it's not the correct procedures to follow.

The real experts without those certificates are blamed for the shortcomings while the ones with certificates who inevitably made the mistakes are praised for it.

My neighbours are mostly amateurs in most of the things they do. Amateurish or not. Everything sound great to them. They are those types of people who says they listen to all types of music but cannot name most of the songs I played or know who the bands are. 🤣

Still, I prefer to use headphones most of the time because I know I sound horrible and they do realise it's horrible but polite enough now to criticise.

I haven't tried out the mods myself. I will ask my buddy if it's any good. I finish the game on easy and will try out hard mode soon then work my way up to insane levels.

@DracoTarot That's Peter Principle at work for you 😅

Ah, well, it is not so bad. It would have been worse if they actively disliked that music, or worse, thought about it like some of the characters from Hysteria! If they do not mind it, I'd call it a win.

On a related note, if they are amateurs, who is to say that they do not think it is good, or indeed that this is how metal is supposed to sound? 😅

I will be interested in learning about mods, though I do not think I'll find the time to get back to DOOM for a while, there are just so many other games I want to play more coming out now...

@DoctorEldritch My neighbours are all polite people and no matter how awful things are, they won't experess their feelings and show disappointment.

I haven't played games in a while. My life is so busy right now I don't even know how many new releases are available or on sale.

@DracoTarot Your comment about your neighbours made me think about Harold:

I am a bit out of the loop myself, having spent the last 3 weeks finding my way through mountains, but the first thing I heard when I got back was that Silksong is finally out, so at least there is that 😅

@DoctorEldritch 😅🤣. I'm definitely going to save this meme and send it to people.

Wish I could enjoy a trip like you did. Sounds great and relaxing. Maybe someday I'll have an opportunity.

@DracoTarot By all means, that's what the memes are for 😉

You could try with South African montains, I know there are beautiful ones. Drakensberg, for example? 🗻

@DoctorEldritch I stay near the Drakensberg area and have done most of the routes. Unfortunately those routes are not maintained anymore and dangerous.

People are going missing often in those mountains and also the reserves.

There's a few spots that are save but expensive to visit. Mostly private properties.

@DracoTarot Maybe they are going for a more expert experience? There are some trails here that are less maintained, so they are chosen by wild hiking enthusiasts who need to have climbing equipment with them. So catering to a different type of hiker.

The way you said it gave me some The Blair Witch Project and The Hills Have Eyes vibes 😅

@DoctorEldritch Only if it was the case. Those who gone missing are never seen again and those who are found were attacked or seriously harmed. It's not about being skilled or not, it's all about who's waiting in the bushes or trails who have cruel intentions.

Most definitely. The Hills Have Eyes is a good example and also Wrong Turn comes to mind.

In a serious note. It has become very dangerous to go out and enjoy yourself. Here you need to be in a group to venture out in nature or isolated areas. Being alone is a big no.

@DracoTarot Oh my. I thought it was about the quality of trails, you know, soil, how stable it is, those kinds of things, but the troubles you speak of seem to be more serious than that, and of a different kind...

But hey, sometimes someone like Walter Joseph Kovacs may come along for a hike and sort it out:

I'd say it is generally a good idea to hike in a group or at least in pairs, no matter how well-maintained the trail may be. You never know what may happen. Even a simple sprain may be a serious issue if you're all alone.
