Since I started playing the Hello Kitty Island Adventure game I keep wondering which of these Sanrio characters I identify the most with. Is it the gift giving Melody? The concerned for others Hello Kitty? Or maybe napping Pompompurin. After this swedish holiday weekend where I did a lot of napping, I feel most like Pompompurin.

Have you all considered who you're most alike of them? I find @DoctorEldritch might be a chococat-person. Always adds in some science in the dialogues 🤭Name: th-99516298.jpg

Aww, it is kind of you to say 😊

To be honest, Hello Kitty passed me by as a kid, so I am not familiar with those characters, it was new to learn that you can fall into personality types for those characters, same way people liked to do for Friends back in the day (I'm probably Ross...)

I became interested and googled personality quizzes for them, and clicked on the first one that came up. Curiously, it had to do with vacations with visual images. Even more curiously, after I completed it, it confirmed your choice:

So your instincts are on point 😉

@miskkie haha, they are all good. Just different! Kuromi has her own Lil witch hut with a cauldron where you can make helpful potions to use on the adventures! She is a fan of fall and Halloween.

@DoctorEldritch oh, would you look at that! Glad my instincts are working well, haha.

Apparently my instincts are good, but my self awareness may not be it 😂 I got my melody, but reading the description I have heard these before
"My Melody lives a good and honest life. She's a lover of baking and hanging with her bestie Hello Kitty. This cutie is kind hearted and caring."

But then again, there wasnt really an extensed nap question in this quiz.Name: Screenshot_20250624_161138_Chrome.jpg

But I also never watched it as a kid. But I always loved the look of hello kitty and the game is absolutely lovely. It also made me watch a few short episodes of the series.

There is an incoming Netflix movie too that I'm excited about.

@Telomina True, that quiz was a bit odd in how it was formulated, visual and about holidays.

I did not know about the Netflix movie. I'll need to look into that. But on the subject of cats in games, I recently came accross an interesting bit of trivia about another upcoming cat-focused game called Ultra Mega Cats, it got to Early Access a week ago:

And here is a trivia question: can you recognise who gave the voice to Clint? Hint: his actor also voiced Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2

Oh, sorry, it's apparently a netflix series "My Melody & Kuromi". Maybe you'll see some of Kuromi's more charming sides as well @miskkie . It's one of my reasons to get Netflix next month. And that new KPop Demon Hunters.

I felt the voice was similar, but had to check your hint. I need to get back to playing RDR1 again. But I got FF16 sponsored for Xbox so I'm working on a Youtube Playthrough for that mainly now.

@Telomina Interesting style, very...what's the word... confectionery? Let me know what you think after you watch it, if you like it, I may give it a go.

As for KPop Demon Hunters, I was following that project, but my worry is that it may not show KPop accurately enough, but instead show more of what the western public thinks it's like. It is different from the inside, with all the intrigue and competition and pressure, I'd rather it was made by Korean artists who know the underbelly of the business. Then again, this kind of movie is probably not a good medium for industry deconstruction anyway. Still, I'd want more "social commentary" about the industry there, I hope they put at least some in.

But back on the subject of games and series combos, here is a reverse one for you, it is not about cats, but it is in a nice style of Aardman Animations: Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is getting a game adaptation, Chicken Run Eggstraction from Bandai Namco:

It may be released in October. It was initially a game for mobile platform, but since then it seems to have been developed for most of them.

I just thought I'd mention it since it, too, has a Netflix counterpart. We will be able to play as both cats and chickens soon 😉

Oh, I remember watching that movie with the chickens with my dad. The game looks silly and fun, I think I will see if I can get that sponsored.

I shall report back after watching some of the "Hello Kitty"- series. And demon hunters. I think that you have a good point, another worry is if it's glamourized that industry since it has some extremely toxic culture. I saw a tiktok with a former Kpop artist in training and she shared some of the expectations they had on her weight (under BMI 16!) and she talked about how sick she got from it. Truly terrifying. But all I see about the movie is praise, and I enjoy the music (I don't really watch many performances, I was more into watching the music videos back int he day, before youtube cost money haha).

@Telomina The game is based on the second movie. The first one came out in 2000 (and it to had a game adaptation back then for PS), and the sequel came out 23 years later, which is what this game is based on. Just thought I'd mention it to make sure you're thinking about the right movie. Good luck with getting that sponsored! 😊

Thank you, that will help. Ah well, I'd say glamorising is true for many cartoons based on something in real life. Even the abovementioned Chicken Run, although perhaps a more graphic account of chicken farms, still portrays them in a cartoonish way. But sometimes that can be good, I mentioned to @DracoTarot recently that I think animation can address mature themes the way live films can't, and that's a good thing. Maybe this cartoon will do something like that. Or the demons they fight are an allegory of industry shortcomings, idk...

As for the music, I was never into kpop or pop in general, but then again, I am not overly exposed to those genres. If I listened to them more, maybe I'd spot something I would like, and this is probably true for most genres, but I just don't have the time.

@Telomina Oh, I wanted to tell you: I watched KPop Demon Hunters this weekend. Without spoilers, I thought that it was...well, ok, but just that, at least to me. It did end up having most of those issues we talked about: it is a westernised, overly idealistic portrayal, which does not really explore the industry almost at all.

The story itself is simplistic but along the lines of what you'd expect from the animation format, although several implications of the plot are not properly explored, in my opinion. But that may be more due to my tendency to over-analyse.

And you're right, it has several songs, which are ok. Not my style of music personally, but I see the asset in them. Maybe you'll like them more than I did.

After you watch it, we can talk about it a bit more. But I will say this: I liked Win or Lose more (though I'll admit that series format helped it): it may not be as flashy, but it did explore more relatable themes.
