@DoctorEldritch I will pay a reasonable price for a good game. If the price is too high I usually wait for the discounts. Otherwise I rely on my friends to let me enjoy the games on their library if I'm unable to buy them.

@DracoTarot I rarely buy games without at least some form of discounts. I usually try to wait for more than a 50% discount, preferably in the 70%-90% area. It is not hard since I am used to waiting for GOTY editions anyway. Unless I want some game very, very much, but that has not happened for a while. I like many of them fine, but it's been a while since I had a moment like

@DoctorEldritch To be honest most new releases are overpriced especially if it's a release from a huge studio. I know everyone involved needs to be paid for their hard work and a lot of time an money went into creating the games but high emd studios never looses out and show profits within weeks.

Some prices can be a bit cheaper.

@DracoTarot It is an ongoing debate and we're at a point where the scales may be tipped one way or the other, with the price of GTA VI still in the air and many big studios hoping for a precedent of it costing over 100$. I think @GoLLuM13 and I talked about it some time ago.

From a more recent development, Borderlands 4 is to cost 80$, I think, a fact that many fans are unhappy about, especially after some of Randy Pitchford's tweets. Meanwhile, Strauss Zelnick is in the opposite camp, advocating for game availability and advantages that lower cost provides to the overall game outreach. So we live in interesting times indeed, and it will be curious to follow which pricing strategy will result in what, when the time comes.

@DoctorEldritch The worst part for me is not only the game prices which are so high, it's the fact most of the new titles are so demanding on hardware. Look at the new Doom for example. On medium settings 8 gig vram cards struggle to reach prefferd frame rates and in certain cases kicks you out of the game. So in other words people are in a way forced to also upgrade their hardware to enjoy games.

High upgrade prices including high game prices are becoming a struggle for gamers.

@DracoTarot That is true, but I'd say that this is just a consequence of the march of progress and nothing new. It's just that advances in hardware are happening faster and more frequently as time goes on: we always had to update our hardware to play the newest games, though now we need to do it more frequently than before, I guess.

That being said, depending on what genre you're after, there are plenty of smaller, less demanding indie games that can run well even on older setups. So you may not be able to play the latest AAA games, sadly, but we're not in a situation where we can't play anything at all, thankfully. Does not make it less annoying, but softens the blow somewhat, at least for me.

@DoctorEldritch Doing it frequently hurts the pocket and destroys the wallet. 😂. Well, I can't keep up anymore.

Some people are so blessed with having the ability to upgrade when needed and it's great if they able to. 🙂

It would be nice to be in such a position. I stick with the smaller and less demanding games these day. AAA titles are out of my league but watch the space... I have a plan and working hard to eventually own a Legion Desktop with all I need. 🙂

@DracoTarot I try not to do it frequently, keeping in mind the Boots theory. I try to invest in something that will last me a long time. My current setup is 7 years old. I will probably need to replace it soon, more so because the support for Windows 10 is stopping in Autumn, and that setup can't run Windows 11, but still, I'd say it is not a bad run for a setup.

Though even so, when I need an upgrade, I opt for putting games that need it on the bottom of the list and playing what games I can play without needing an upgrade.

A man of fine taste 😉 Do you have a particular model in mind?

@DoctorEldritch Maybe wait until the Black Friday deals popup again or save for until you are able to purchase a beast of a machine.

I'm on Windows 10 and disabled some features. I do not auto update my pc anymore. When a crucial update is released I'll only download the specific one manually.

My pc also can't load Windows 11. I am considering to move over to Linux for a while.

I am going to make a decision based in the communies recommendations and see if the specific model will be available in SA. If not I will check how much import costs will be and if it's to high I'll look for an alternative.

I specifically have a desktop in mind. If all else fails I will settle for a laptop. 🙂

@DracoTarot I will probably do that, yeah. Then again, I'll need to look into how big of an issue the Windows 10 support discontinuing is. I read that it would make the system vulnerable to viruses, but maybe there is a way to work around that. @GoLLuM13 maybe you know something?

I just auto-update. What features do you opt out of?
