    Hello Legion Gamers!

Epic Games Store offers games for free every week. This week, the free games are...

    Dead Island 2

A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, turning inhabitants into zombies. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, uncover the truth behind the outbreak and discover who -or what- you are.

Seems to be a horror week today. This one is classic zombies, so those who like this theme may enjoy it. There is a single-player story, but they also have a co-op now to play with friends, like in more classic Left 4 Dead, but this seems to be more lighthearted. And it is a placeholder while we're waiting for Dying Light: The Beast.

But this is not all! Another free game this time is...

    Happy Game

A little boy falls asleep to a horrible nightmare. Can you make him happy again?

This one plays more like a surreal nightmare trip. Or a budget Little Nightmares, maybe. Either way, not really my cup of tea. @DracoTarot you like horror games, but usually more...how do I put t...substantial? What's your take on this one?

    See anything you like?

@DoctorEldritch Dead Island 2 is going to be EPIC. The first one was awesome. I can't wait to try it out. 😉

@DracoTarot I like how it is more upbeat. There are zombie games where a more grim and serious tone fits well, like Days Gone or The Last of Us (true, not pure zombie, but close enough), but games like this that are more light and set in bright and uplifting places for contrast are sometimes good too.

What about the Happy Game, is that brand of horror to your liking, or is it too...I want to say whimsy...to be fully enjoyable?

@DoctorEldritch I totally agree with you. Dead Island has a different feel to it and much more enjoyable.

Any happy and fun-filled game is welcome in my library. I mean not everything has to be serious and full of doom and gloom.

A funny and uplifting zombie or horror game sounds good to me. 🙂

@DracoTarot I wonder how it would compare to Dying Light. I played it, the first game, and it was quite dynamic with good parkour elements. I'll need to try Dead Island to see how they compare, which is especially interesting as they are made by the same studio, Dying Light is Dead Island's spiritual successor. What elements were kept, what were changed, can be curious from a gamedev perspective.

@DoctorEldritch There's not much difference between the two except Dead Island looks a bit better and also I like the storyline more than Dying Light.

I would rate Dying light a seven out of ten and Dead Island an eight.

@DracoTarot Really? That's surprising, considering Dying Light came out after the Dead Island, one would expect it to have better graphics...

As for the story, I'll need to try. The story in Dying Light was...ok, I guess, but a bit like in some shooters, it felt like it was there more to give you a reason to go somewhere and shoot some zombies rather than to tell an engaging story.

@DoctorEldritch It does have better graphics here and there. They did make the environment more realistic but Dead Island is eye candy in 4K. Still, the gameplay and overall feel of the games are the same.

Dead Island has more dialogue and cut scenes. That's why I find the story line better.

@DracoTarot Maybe they made the environment higher? In Dying Light, you could traverse in 3 dimensions, you could climb and use the Grappling Hook, so the action was not limited to just the ground. Not sure if Dead Island 2 has that.

I'll try it out, see how I feel about it. Sometime. Zombies are not really my thing, I have nothing against them, but I prefer vampires 😅

@DoctorEldritch There's certain stages you're able to climb, swing and destroy some of the structures in the game. Overall it's a ground bound shooter.

I also not keen on killing zombies and would prefer other types of monsters and creatures but if the zombie game is good I don't mind.

Please do, if you don't like it you can skip it. Like I said the game graphics made thr game worthwhile for me.
