    Hello Legion Gamers!

2023's Baldur's Gate 3 is hailed to be one of the best games of that year and this whole decade. Most agree that it is a masterpiece. But what is polarising is the way people think about how much influence this game will have.

On the one hand, Mark Darrah argued that sales do not equal influence, and that BG3 will not affect the industry as much as some would think. Or become some sort of new "golden standard" for making RPG games. Indeed, its success was a conjunction of several factors, from having a very popular IP and technologies to the main character design approach and cinematic scenes. What worked for Larian may not work or be hard to recreate for others. You can watch more about it here:

But then, New Blood Interactive's Dave Oshry revealed that we're now "in a post Baldur's Gate 3 world". And that the industry landscape has changed after its release.

Personally, I am sort of on the fence (which is an uncomfortable position to be in, I'll admit): on one hand, while I do not mind BG3 becoming a standard, I can see how it may be hard to match. But at the same time, Dave Oshry mentioned that "Microsoft should fund a Pillars of Eternity 3", and I agree: big companies with good IPs should not let them gather dust, and BG3 could well shake it up a bit.

    Which side are you on?

Sadly not gotten to BG3 yet, but from everything I've seen and heard it really is a great game. Hope it'll influence the industry.
