@DoctorEldritch Many thanks 🙂. I'm looking forward to reading about them.

Well, here is the first one: The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu.

As you can probably guess from the name, it is based on The Mound story, and the goal is to pillage K'n-yan.

What's interesting about this one is that it is designed to be a co-op game for up to 4 friends. Zombie co-ops are nothing new, but Lovcraftian I don't think we've had before. So if you have some friends who you'd like to plunge into elritch madness with, then you should be able to soon, release is planned for this year.

@DoctorEldritch Yes, Tropico is fun because it has the platform with a lot of different options that does not make additional playthroughs feel the same.
I played the Demos of the new Cthulhu themed games and I didn't find any other alternatives ways to go, so they will have to build the platform to run different missions or alternative Eldritch beings to be minions of.

@ChristianRasmussen Ah, I see. Yeah, if they do not add more variety, that will be a problem. I guess you could see it as a metaphor for the Eldritch beings: there is no choice. But in strategy games, gameplay should be put over substance; what works in stories and puzzles does not work in strategies.

A shame, really: Lovecraft has a lot of sides and beings to worship and lore that would allow for variety, developers may not be using it to the full extent. Maybe it is EA and Demo limitations, and DLCs may factor in, we'll see...

Still, the overall trend is positive: we seem to be getting more Lovecraftian games than before, at least.

@DoctorEldritch I love that we get a lot more games, but I am part-compleatest and therefore want to explore nearly all options in a game. But when the story is the same on every playthrough there is very little to explore.

@ChristianRasmussen With strategy games, that is certainly a problem. Not so much with narrative games, I think.

But on the plus side, not only are we getting new games, but also new genre experiments, I do not remember there being a Lovecraftian strategy game before. It may not be the best first attempt, but on a grand scale of things, I'd say it is a positive...precedent.

And experiments do not stop there. @DracoTarot, here is one more game for your Lovecraftian pile: the upcoming Tower of Nightmares by RootGame. Curiously, I could not find a trailer for it on YouTube, but you can watch it here. It is a Lovecraftian deckbuilder and tower defence mashup, an interesting genre combo in itself, and Lovecraftian themes are a cherry on top. That is, if it actually works well together gameplay-wise. We'll see.

@DoctorEldritch I can not remember it in PC games too, but normal game have some very similar to the games we are seeing now. Avalon Hill Betrayal at House on the Hill very easy came to mind when playing the demo for The Horror at Highrook. Tower of Nightmares concept also looks like a board game where you have to conquer a castle and the fight back with catapults and magic.

@DoctorEldritch Once again, thanks for the tag. Geez, there seem to be so many out there. I don't know how I'm going to keep up with all of them. 😂

@ChristianRasmussen To be fair, many games come from tabletop roots, and it is not a bad thing, they are quite popular. Remember how Frosthaven was a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign that collected 5 million on the first day (and 13 million in total), now they are making it a digital version:

I guess it comes down to the mechanics of the tabletop and how well they are transferred into the digital version. If Betrayal at House on the Hill "turned into" The Horror at Highrook without losing too much, I'll be happy.

@DracoTarot There are so many indeed. I have one more for your pile, and it starts with a question: what if Dredge was first-person? The answer is Dreadmoor from the Russian studio Dream Dock:

No release date yet, but I like the trailer 😉

Yes that would be really a great thing. I just hope they have added a big more than what you find in the boardgame. Digital is a faster way to play as you do not have to lay out and pack it all away, but still some more flavor would be nice.
