@DoctorEldritch I'm a huge Doom fan, but looking at the specs to play the game, I will not be able to. I'd need another upgrade. 😐

Whereas I'm not much of a Doom fan. Gameplay actually does look kinda fun...

@DracoTarot I like DOOM and it can be sort of nostalgic, I played the first one as a kid, but I did not finish the 2016s DOOM. It is hard for me to stay interested in shooters for long. Normally, I could take a break and come back to them after a while, I did that with Shadow Warrior, but DOOM was taking too much space to keep it for too long. I should go back to it one of these days...

@miskkie I guess it may come down more to whether you like shooters or not. They say it has some differences compared to the previous two games, so it is a somewhat new experience compared to the DOOM we're used to. Supposedly...

@DoctorEldritch, I'm looking forward to playing the new Doom because of the Dark Ages theme. I guess the only way I would be able to play it will be at my friend's house on his PC. 😊

Space is always an issue, especially with all the updates. I have finished all of them in the series on the most challenging levels.

@DracoTarot You have a soft spot for Dark Ages? Do you mean Dark as in a time period (5th to 10th centuries) and its attributes, or thematically? Surprisingly, I do not think there are that many games set in historically accurate Dark Ages, both Patinent and Kingdome Come take place much later, for example. What games do you have in mind when you say "Dark Ages"?

The hurdle for me was the collectables, I did not want to have to do the levels again to find all those figurines, but I kept missing some and it got annoying for me. Space was the next big issue, but ultimately it came down to those collectables, now that I think about it.

@DoctorEldritch, I always had a soft spot for things related to the Dark Ages, especially history. I agree. There aren't a lot of historically accurate Dark Ages games out there, and I would like to see developers follow that route.

A few games I can mention are The Valiant, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Mount and Blade, Crusader Kings, Dragon Age, The Guild and Mideival Dynasty.

Yeah, redoing the levels to find the collectables was frustrating. On the other hand, most of the collectables were sometimes in plain sight and easily overlooked. 😊

@DracoTarot It is a bit vague, I want to say. If we say the Dark Ages as Early Middle Ages, then many games would, strictly speaking, not fit. Like Kingdom Come Deliverance or Guild, they are both later than that, out of all these games, I'd say Mount and Blade and Crusader Kings happened just after the Dark Ages ended, and only Medieval Dynasty is set more properly in that period.

Then again, some people define the Dark Ages as the 5th-15th century, not 5th-10th, in that definition they all fit, but I'd argue that the last 5 centuries were thematically different already, people started moving towards Renaissance by then, as opposed to earlier times that really were the Dark Ages on a figurative level...

Sure, it is if you approach the historic lines very strictly, but still. Somehow not many games are properly set in that specific period. I wonder why...

Some were in plain sight, some were hidden, those little tokens were annoying...

@DoctorEldritch, I think the Dark Ages may be a difficult period to work with. The problem with the Dark Ages is, and to an extent, developers have that problem too, that they know too little about the period to fully flesh out the game. Most of the characters and nations will be based more on full fantasy.
