@GoLLuM13 I wonder what they can be used for, aside from making games. I mean, is there some sort of security risk or proprietary conflict when people use them? And if so, isn't it odd that the contract is formed in such a way that developers are not required to give it back? This whole system is rather bizarre.

Was it sold as a Pizza Oven as a joke, or do they need to do it like this because you can't actually sell it as "PS5 devkit"?

@DoctorEldritch it was sold like this because you're not supposed to sell it.

As for the exact details of the contract between Sony and studios I don't know them, if the machine is free or paid and if paid if there's a difference between a small indie that will take only one and giant like EA who will take tens or hundreds 👀

@DracoTarot Waiting for the complete games is always better, I think. Even if there are no DLCs planned, often games keep patching for a while after release.

I do not like touch screens, so I thought I'd try to ease myself into it with a physical keyboard + touchscreen combo. In that regard, it works sort of fine so far. I still do not like touchscreens, but it helps that I have an option not to use them.

I am not sure, there was a rumour like that, but I never thought it was real, I mean, it's just code. It was no less dangerous than that Mayan Calendar thing for 2012. Those baseless precognitions are interesting to observe, but difficult to believe for me. Unlike more tangible dangers, like fungi 😉

Ah, well, childhood is the land of "freedom to do whatever I wanted", regardless of an actual location. It was such a carefree time...

@GoLLuM13 But if it's your "property", how does it work, do you get property but forfeit your rights to sell it? And if you are not supposed to do that, then what are you to do, crush it with a road paver?

Goes to show how complicated the gaming industry is behind the curtains...

@DracoTarot speaking of being a millennial, here is something that may interest you: Spina studio, founded by people from CD Projekt Red and Techland, has announced its debut game: Phase Zero. This will be a zombie survival horror in a modern reimagining of the classic games from the 90s. I thought it looked like something you may enjoy:

Stranger Things is almost over, 80-s nostalgia is out, 90-s nostalgia is in 😉

@DoctorEldritch you can buy a steam game but you can't sell it back and legally you can't sell the account either, so I guess it's something like that 😜

@GoLLuM13 Could be, though games are purely digital while the dev kit is an actual physical object.

Then again, I am not fully onboard the fully digital idea either, seeing as I can still remember the times when you could trade physical game copies with your friends and lend them to each other, back when games were scarce. I miss that level of community that brought back then. I think it should be recreatable for the digital-only realm too, though I understand how it is unlikely to happen from the marketing viewpoint...

@DoctorEldritch there are some actors who are trying to recreate this for example Family in Steam where the members of a Steam Family can share their library but there's an asterisk, all members of the so called family should be on the same store region, which means if a member is in let's say France, another in Spain and a third in Netherland, they can't be part of the same family even if it's EU 👀
Another actor trying this is Nintendo, but the number of people is very limited and it's only for like 14 days

@DoctorEldritch It's always better to wait for all the goodies to be in one place. I think it's also better to download everything at the same time.

After getting used to touch screens, I struggle with button phones. On the other hand, using a touchscreen, which is too sensitive, causes me to make mistakes, especially when typing.

All conspiracy theories. Some came true, but not how they were outlined. I still feel something huge is about to happen in the near future.

@DoctorEldritch Phase Zero does look interesting and is a type of game I'd like to play on a handheld.

@GoLLuM13 I want to say it's better than nothing, but not enough 😅 I can see the idea of a game for a group of people (hence Family name, I guess), and it makes sense as often friends are from the same school/university/city/country, but gamers are a global community, one of the beautiful things about games is that they connect people across the world. And this approach does not allow for that.
