    Enigmatic @DracoTarot 😉

I'd say it depends on what you like. Vampires themselves are an old myth going back ages in one form or another, long before stories like Dracula came about. Chedipe, sasabonsam, etc. Almost every mythology has something about a similar concept. Actually, ahharu would behave like what you described, "a bloodthirsty animals in search of victims to rip them apart limb from limb", so it is not entirely inaccurate.

From that angle, Dracula is a romanticized version even back when it first appeared, but we can let it slide because he is an individual, not a group (as in, we would not judge a race by how some famous people belonging to it behave).

The modern age tends to romanticize everything it can get its hands on, though, and it is nothing new, I mean, most fairytales were adapted as well. Original Grimm tales were rather, well, grim and sometimes even gory, and not intended for children. I'd say something on a similar scale happened to vampires. But also, they were taken as a staple in games too and changed in such a way that would allow them to fit there, like World of Darkness did, for example.

When you say "energy vampire" I think of Colin Robinson from What we do in the Shadows 😉

Not romanticized, but satire, which is also going astray, but I'll allow it.

Nothing wrong with collecting, it's just there are only so many hours in a day, rather than play something ok from a thematic collection I'd play something very good not connected to a specific theme, to save time if nothing else.

@DoctorEldritch 😂. Not really. I'm not difficult to understand and easily read. My weakness is I can be manipulated into doing things I do not want to do and in a sense vulnerable.

Yeah, there are so many types of vampires in folklore and mythology. I will stick with the good old classic version of a bloodsucker.

Well I think it's because romanticization involves viewing things and people in idealized lights, there is a level of mystery that is needed - an amount of “unknown.”

I liked Helmburg in What We Do in the Shadows. His character rendition came close to the classic Nosferatu.

I got used to collecting things even if I did not have time to pay attention to it. It's also one of my weakest trades. 😄

    @DracoTarot Self-awareness is a first step towards improvement 😉

I don't think there is such a thing as something purely classic when it comes to myths, each one has slightly interesting and unique variations. A classic would then probably be a collection of characteristics present in all versions, if so, then for vampires, it's drinking blood. Even immortality or fear of light are not universal for them.

What We Do in the Shadows did a good job of making fun of the most common vampire tropes. I should finish watching it now that it's over, I think I stepped after season 2...

Collecting in itself is not bad so long as it does not turn into hoarding 😅

@DoctorEldritch That's what I actually meant. More based on the collection of characteristics associated with a vampire. Or I can rather say Dracula's characteristics are the most appealing to me and all other movies using the same principles and concepts to portray a vampire.

I watched all 4 seasons and for me, it was worthwhile and entertaining but It's one of those series you watch once just like the IT Crowd.

I do have a bit of a hoarding problem. Not on an over-the-top scale like some people do. It's mostly small things and everything is stored away neatly and some items are on show. It's all about the value of some items.

@DracoTarot To be entirely honest, I think vampires got romanticised to the point where they stole the spotlight from other worthy candidates. Liches are no less interesting, but no one wrote a captivating book about one, and they lost a popularity contest...

True, I would not watch it again, but I should probably finish it one of these days...

Well, so long as it is not manic or harmful. These days collecting things may be seen as a form of investment anyway 😅

@DoctorEldritch True, the whole romance thing messes most things up and if not included in a certain genre or theme, nothing sells and ends up like the liches.

Mine is definitely for investment. The other things I have are mainly for entertainment purposes. I do have my eye on a few masks but as soon as I purchase them I'm in trouble. I will grow a fondness for masks and won't stop collecting them.

I'll end up like AJ Good and his house of masks. 😂

@DracoTarot It sells, but to the in-crowd. Liches have their niche, they are popular in games, I mean, that's what you think about when you think about Necropolis in the HoMM series and so forth. They were good in Majesty 2 too, especially the last DLC. And more examples exist, but they have a harder time making their way into popular culture, though not for the lack of trying. For example, from an angle, Voldemort is kind of a lich. But it didn't take.

Well, you could always go to Venice in carnival season and show all of them off. Next time I visit my parents, I'll need to show you what masks we got.

So long as you do not end up like Gobseck it will be fine 😅

@DoctorEldritch I'm busy fending off liches deep within the dungeons of Torchlight 2 and must say they are quite a match. Popular culture is overall hard to please. At least we had the Lich King in Warcraft and his character was quite popular with his army and all.

It would be a logistical nightmare to take all my masks along with me to Venice. I'm the kind of person who will buy at least 5 in a month especially if the masks are horror-themed. I won't be able to stop myself and will end up with hundreds of mask.

Oh yes, it would be interesting to see your collection. 😊

At least I won't end up like Gobseck, I hope not.😐

@DracoTarot Ah, true, there was a Lich King there! Though the way he operated was not so typical for liches...

5 a month is a lot, where do you keep them all?

@DoctorEldritch There was an expansion a few years ago where the Lich King could summon liches within an enemy's base or around soldiers.

The liches drew energy from soldiers and made base structures weak.

Storage will be a big issue and would have to hang them all over the house. That's why I said it would be a logistical nightmare to take them along to showcase at a carnival.😎
