    Hello Legion Gamers!

We seem to be in a period of chances to play games early 😉 Endless Legend 2 offered this chance, and one more upcoming game is doing the same: the soon-to-be-released (6th of March to be exact) Do No Harm:

This is a "single window" doctor simulator but with a Lovecraftian twist. @DracoTarot you may be interested, for me it is certainly worth a closer look 😉. And that is not all, anyone who wants can request a Playtest access on Steam, and with a bit of luck try this game sooner! @GoLLuM13 this is another option if Endless Legend 2 is not tempting enough. And @Blackgem if you are on the lookout for a Lovecraftian game.

@DoctorEldritch Any game that has a Lovecraftian theme won't pass me by and I'll check it out.

@DracoTarot They can be a bit hit-and-miss, sometimes those who make them do not get the atmosphere right.

Dredge or Darkest Dungeon were excellent, but, for example, The Sinking City or Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, while decent RPGs, did not capture the atmosphere just right, and then there are niche things like Sunless Sea that are good but have a somewhat steep entry point.

Curious to see how this news game fares in comparison. Hopefully, it will be something like "Dredge meets Papers' Please. That'd be nice.

@DoctorEldritch There will always be a hit and a miss. The Crow movies are a good example and so it will be with games.

I finally watched Nosferatu and I enjoyed it a lot. Most of the movie was a hit and the only miss in the movie was...why on earth would Nosferatu have a moustache? I laughed when I realized he had one. Did the producers not think it through or thought it would be funny to give him one because the movie was concluded in November? I know November is also known as Movember when men grow moustaches for charity purposes. 😂😒

Most of the games you've mentioned I haven't played yet. I'm so out of date with things and didn't realize how many Lovecraftian-themed games are out there. 😂

@DracoTarot The Crow movies are a good example of hubris 😉

Ah, actually, I didn't get a chance to tell you yet and you beat me to it, but I also watched it this past weekend. Great minds and all that 😅 I liked it a lot but I have questions about the ending, I mean, I get the symbolism and all, but when it comes down to it, Orlok won? Sort of. I mean, he got exactly what he was after, and the fact that it spelt his demise is coincidental. The ending in the original was more logical in that seense.

As for the moustache, I read that they took it from the fact that it was a typical fashion of Rumania nobility during the time when he historically was alive, the same for the oseledets he has. Robert Eggers is known for striving for historical accuracy in these things.

Really? I would think Darkest Dungeon or Dredge you have?

@DoctorEldritch Yeah, the crow does lean towards hubris.

I used my third eye today to tap into your subconscious without your realizing it. I'm joking! 😂

My opinion is they wanted to make the ending more dramatic. Orlok needed Ellen to formally agree to re-pledge herself to him, which is why he travelled to Wisborg himself. Only then could he satisfy his desire for Ellen's blood, when she had agreed to connect herself to Orlok of her own free will Orloc had the opportunity to rid himself of the burden and curse he carried. Oroloc knew that through her sacrifice he would have e the will to self-sacrifice but the intention was to first spread fear among all so his legacy wouldn't be forgotten.

Orolocv won in all aspects. Fear, love, and sacrifice made him victorious.

Oh, I see. It makes sense from a historical point of view. Then the moustache wasn't a bad idea.

I do have Darkest Dungeon. Dresge has been downloaded and will play it soon. The rest, no.

@DracoTarot Sure you're joking. Or maybe you thinking me not realizing it is actually a clever ploy where it is you who is not realising I saw right through your ruse and my subconsciousness showed you exactly what I wanted you to see 😉

That's also a joke. I do not bother my subconsciousness, can't make heads or tails of that weird place, best leave it be...

Hmm, I guess it could be seen that way, but it dabbles a bit into the modern interpretation of vampires that I personally do not always favour: that they are victims. I mean, it does work with regular vampires, who are maybe turned against their will, and thus denied daylight and cursed with insatiable hunger. But Dracula, Orlok, powerful vampires like those that in their canon were not "turned" into vampires but rather took steps to become this way themselves intentionally, although this condition does come at a price, the abilities and immortality they get outweigh those. Dracula is probably a more studied example compared to Orlok (who, let's be fair, is a plagiarism of Dracula anyway), and he revels in his power and enjoys the hunt. I'll admit that it is fresh to look at this condition as a curse to get rid of for powerful vampires like that, but it somehow rubs me off the wrong way a bit.

I read a view that Orlok in this movie could be a symbol for an incurable deadly disease, and actually what Ellen is going through in the film is 5 stages of grief acceptance being the last one. From that angle, Orlok may be less of an independent character and more of a catalyst for her journey. That's the thing about films, though, they are open to interpretation.

They did spend a lot of time on preparations for that film. Lily-Rose Depp studied butoh dance and Jean-Martin Charcot illustrations to portray epileptic seizures accurately, and Bill Skarsgård studied opera singing to train deep voice delivery.

Ah, well, you did not lose much, those are not bad games, but not that good for the Lovecraft vibe, even while claiming to have it. Sunless Sea is good if you like novels, it has a lot of text. I am curious to see how they do in The Sinking City 2 though.

@DoctorEldritch 😂 It may have been a clever ploy or maybe not. I may also have thrown you a curve ball to think I used trickery to read your subconsciousness or did I? Maybe it's because I'm an emotional sponge and can often pick up what someone else is feeling or thinking without trying. It's all a mystery!!! 😂😎

The modern interpretation of a Vampire does not impress me at all. The whole concept of modern vampires has been destroyed. There is no doubt that the classical concept of vampires has been changed by the contemporary media. The new, modern vampires have been romanticized and in many cases portrayed as only a bloodthirsty animals in search of victims to rip them apart limb from limb.

No Vampire according to mythology did that. It was all about seducing a victim to feed for survival. In the process, the victim will turn and become one with their master willingly or unwillingly.

Totally agree with what you've written here about Dracula and Orlok and yeah many things these days rub me the wrong way, especially in the movie industry.

In the movie, Orlok seems also to portray an energy vampire not just a bearer of deadly disease. He fed mostly of emotional energy. He thrives on an emotional buffet which gives him power.

They did put a lot of effort into the movie and with all the detail added the movie seems to be an overall success.

I like to collect things and would like to have them all in the end. Good or bad it's the idea of having the games that go along with a certain theme.
