@DoctorEldritch I would love to have a anteater as a pet. The thing is I'm not sure my garden would look the same again when the anteater starts digging everywhere for those pesky ants.

Lavender would smell way better than month ball. I can't stand the smell.

I'll also try out the basil mix.

    @DracoTarot Well, you can't have everything, I suppose 😅

Then in addition to lavender and basic against mosquitoes, try planting a bit of rosemary and mint where ants are, they may help to repel them a bit.

I am not sure if there is anybody who likes the smell of moth balls...

@DoctorEldritch I think it's time to follow through and start my herbal garden. I was a bit lazy to start planting and potting.

The thing is I will maybe need a greenhouse or try to grow everything in the kitchen. On the plus side, I do have a few books on Alchemy, so finding recipes will not be an issue.😄

Elderly people adore mothballs. Most of the time they do smell like them. 😉

@DracoTarot It is always nice to have a garden 🌾🌹🌿 And mint and rosemary can grow very nicely with little effort, so it should not take too much of your time once you get it going.

Wait, the point of lavender and basil is to repel mosquitoes with aroma, if you put them in the greenhouse, then it will end up the only mosquito-free zone. I guess you can use alchemy to then make some spelling burners or whatnot, but then you'd need to spend time on that regularly.

Really? Not the old people I know, but I do not know all that many. Maybe Mothball Eau de Toilette is a new fad among those over 70...

@DoctorEldritch I will beforehand buy some lavender and use it as a mosquito repellent in my house. What I meant by having a greenhouse is when I start growing my own and then averts the lavender and use some alchemy recipes to create magic of my own including with other herbs, spices and so forth.

Not all old people smell like mothballs😂 but I was in quite a few houses where elderly people stay and the scent of mothballs is noticeable, especially near closets and on their clothes. Nothing wrong with it as mothballs are an age-old tradition to use in SA for silver moths and cockroaches within closets and cupboards to keep them away.

@DracoTarot That's all good and well, but why not just plant a lot of lavender around? I would imagine it would work best if the house is surrounded by bushes of it. And you can still cut some and work your magic with them, and the fresh and...processed? lavender will complement each other.

Mothballs are a staple indeed, but these days there are other options. Then again, it may come down to how disturbing is the smell for you.

On a related note, here is an upcoming game you may enjoy 😅

@DoctorEldritch As they say in Torchlight 2, " You have received a new quest," and the difficulty will be hard. Firstly, our house is paved all around, and the garden is about 10 meters from the main building. If I have to surround the house with Lavender bushes, I will need quite a few pots to plant them in. I will have to plant a decent amount to surround the house. I would imagine it will work well, especially under the windows. 😊

Most elderly are stuck in the old ways and mothballs are one of those things they will never get rid of and refuse to adapt to new and more advanced options. Stubborn they will be LOL!!

Depending on the quantity used, moth balls do not smell that bad. It does bother me when the scent is absorbed into clothing like a jersey or cardigan. The smell sticks like crazy, especially on wool.

OMG!! seriously a game about eliminating mosquitos. Who would have imagined?😂

The game does look fun and hilarious but I think I'll skip this one. Imagine playing this game and killing mozzies while they are swarming your ankles like a pack of hungry hyenas in search of blood.

Then you'd have to fight off and eliminate them in the physical and virtual world at the same time.

What a mission and a half that would be. 😂

@DracoTarot It may be a good idea to start with pots below windows and near doors, block their entry points, so to speak.

I don't think it is stubbornness, more clinging to familiarity. This is how it was done, so it is familiar, and familiar is comforting, and that is important for many elderly people.

Hey, don't sell the game short. What you may get if you decide to give it a try is a fully-immersive VR/AR experience complete with a full range of sensory sensations 😅

@DoctorEldritch Yeah, doors and windows are entry points and should be protected by all means from these vile creatures. 😂

True, I can't argue with that. It's so difficult to convince them otherwise. Each to their own I guess.

If the game was fully immersive I wouldn't think twice about playing it. I am not keen on the idea of mosquitos being able to attract and suck blood from a body part. With all the itching and burning going on I will lose my mind. 😂

@DracoTarot And don't forget about the vents 😉

True, it can be tricky to change the opinions of people set in their ways. But hey, if you grow a lot of lavender and then give them all small pouches with dried plants as gifts, they may gradually switch.

Ah well, you can't have everything. You want a fully immersive AR, you need to be ready to enjoy all sorts of sensations, good and bad. So while braindance and other sci-fi technology remain a dream of the future, maybe it is a good thing that video games are mostly confined to monitors so far 😅
