@DracoTarot I want to say the indie scene is doing well enough, and we had some decent examples in big games too, like Baldur's Gate 3. I'd say it may be more that a few greedy publishers are giving an industry a bad name. Or I would want to say that, but we all know what turmoil the industry is in right now...

Oh my. So you're delegating. But are you sure the criteria of a "good game" for your friends is similar to yours? I have friends with whom I get a long fine but we have very different game tastes.

I usually filter by Steam score and not play anything below Very Positive, and I came to a point where I am training myself to be more accepting of acknowledging that it is ok to drop a game midway if it does not bring fun any more. I also started to brush my backlog and remove games that are "would play if nothing better comes along" ones because I realised that there is always something better and that I will never have enough time.

@ramax not in this particular selection, no. Which is odd, now that you've spotted it. I mean, it certainly looks more impressive than, say, Horizon Forbidden West, I'd say. Goes to show any list is never fully representative, I guess...

@DoctorEldritch Yes, I think he'd fit in too. Technically, maybe, but artistically it's really good.

@DoctorEldritch I agree the Indie scene is doing well and Bsldurs Gate is a good example. There will be the greedy ones who like to rush things and most of the time they shoot themselves in the foot. Sometimes I wonder if some of these big executives really like the gaming scene and even play games themselves. Money is the only thing that matters.

Most of my friends are hardcore gamers and will spend hours playing. I do not do so much and have other things to do. I rely on their feedback to make a decision and so far it worked out well for me.

@ramax Oh yes, I remember your screenshots from the game. Not sure why they did not include it. Maybe underperforming sales, I hear Ubisoft was not entirely happy with the figures, so it could be marketing or something, I dunno...

@DoctorEldritch Yes, they didn't sell enough on the UBI store, but now that it's on steam there are more sales. The game cost a lot of money, which is why they were counting on maximum sales I guess.

@ramax Seems that way, and they are discounting it now, too. Is there any news about possible DLCs or something like that? Steam is all good and well, but DLCs can really help the sales too. Though right now the timing is a bit... AC Shadows is due to come out soon and that game is...curious, marketing-wise... And several heavy-hitters are due to come out too, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Avowed, Atomfall. Easy to lose the spotlight DLC would bring when you're standing against those.

@DoctorEldritch The first DLC is not what will sell. It's the next one, in 2025, that will be eagerly awaited, bringing new planets to visit and new adventures.

@DracoTarot "Well" is accurate but a bit of an overstatement. I mean, we mostly talk here about good and interesting indie game examples, and there is merit to that, after all, bad games are rarely worth talking about, much less playing. But we need to remember that, for every successful and good indie game there are so many not-so-good ones out there, too. It's just when they flop, they do not make a splash like big publisher games do (cough-Concord-cough).

It is good to find people whose gaming tastes align with yours (not only gaming, indeed, similar tastes in films or food or books are also quite nice).
