@ZaidH Mafia I liked. It is now a more distilled experience (pun intended), focus on the story and not much else, just as it should be. I started Mafia 2 but only just, so can't say much about the story, though I would say that the visuals are somewhat worse than in Mafia 1 remake. At least that's the impression I got so far.

Wait, by tomb do you mean Thebes?

I thought that wiping the slate clean was his rationale that he convinced himself was the reason, but his actual reason was actually to conceal the fact that he was the one responsible for the apocalypse from the future generations, he did not want to be remembered like that. At least that's the impression I got.

@DoctorEldritch That's great! Considering how tight the narrative is though, I really feel for the world designers who crafted such an amazing world—only for parts of it to be experienced by players 😓 I don’t expect the visuals of the Mafia 2 remaster to match those of the remake, but people have reported it as a buggy mess. Hopefully, it’s improved by now?

I think so, yes. The place with the huge Faro statue. And yes, he turned out to be a narcissistic douche who cared more about himself and his legacy than the betterment of humanity. They could've given him some characteristics to distinguish him from the generic sci-fi villains, but in the end he was a flat character 😐

@ZaidH That is true, you do not get much reason to visit some places like the dam (which I personally was surprised about, I mean, it is a good location for an epic showdown, but no). Unless you're a completionist and want to collect all those postcards and cards and all, but thankfully, I am not one of them.

But I want to say this is fairly typical for most "open" worlds these days, I mean, we just mentioned the size of LAD, all that space and so much of it is unused, really. Or take Fallout 4: a fourth of a map is covered in water, come on, how many players do you think took a swim there? At least the Mafia realised it's the story people are after and made changes to streamline it.

It's not that Mafia 2 graphics are bad, it's fine, just not as polished. As for the bugs, I encountered some, like people sitting on air instead of a chair, but nothing critical so far.

He is a flat character, and I did not like it how in that bunker they revealed he turned into that giant energy-eating blob of flesh, but do not show him and you don't get to talk to him, he is just burned off-screen. I mean, really, talk about anticlimactic.

On a related note, I read a rumour today that they may have cancelled that MMORPG in Horizon universe, so if true, I guess you and I are not the only ones who thought the plot may be lacking.

@ZaidH I stand corrected, that rumour has been debunked. The news was about some other game, code-named "Project H", so some thought it was Horizon.

The funny thing is, in the comment to that rumor, some people were saying that they do not mind that it was cancelled, so the point still stands 😅

@DoctorEldritch Oh god yes! I have no idea what the rationale was behind making the posh area north of the railway station so devoid of activity in LAD. I think the vocational school is the only activity in that section of the map.

    😂😂😂 But wait...
If I’m understanding things right, there are now TWO Horizon MMOs in development 😶?

@ZaidH Maybe there were things happening in that area in Lost Judgement and they just copied that whole district? Would not explain why they did not put interesting stories or places there, though. Uncharacteristically sloppy.

And the school is not even that fun 😜

Ah, no, there was only one Horizon MMO in development, then there was a rumour that it got cancelled, but it was a false rumour. What got cancelled was something codenamed Project H, nothing to do with Horizon. So whatever Project H was, it's out and Horizon MMO is still in.

@DoctorEldritch Oh dang, that might actually be the case. I wonder if the Dragon Go-Kart thingy uses those roads—if not, they really should’ve implemented a reverse toll to give US enough money to hitch a taxi back south 😅 Lmao, I peaced out of the school the moment that certificate veteran dude charged 1 million yen just to teach me time-slowing powers 😂

Ah okay, good to hear. After those recent rumors about PlayStation canceling the God of War GaaS, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had even more Horizon MP games in the pipeline 😶

@ZaidH Exactly, that's another thing, what happened to all the taxis? I get it that Ichiban walks with a whole entourage of weirdoes and they will not all fit into one cab, so that makes sense, but come on...

certificate veteran dude charged 1 million yen
After passing all the maths test, you can be like:

But yeah, I never bought anything from him. My Ichiban did not turn a humble cracker food stand into an international multibillion corporation just to pay off his student loans 😅

I thought the rumour was thatthe next God of War would take place in Egypt? Is that what got cancelled?

@DoctorEldritch So I’ve just reached (and gotten stuck in 😭) the part of the story where the gang arrives in Sotenbori. This place is such a great reminder that quality > quantity. Every nook and cranny feels so memorable, all thanks to its compact size. Hope Infinite Wealth leans more in this direction rather than whatever happened with Ijincho 😅

LMFAO 😂😂😂 Maybe Ichiban should've taught him the power of saving the game instead. No way in hell I’d pass those math tests without the help of RNG gods and save scumming.

Nope, thankfully, it wasn’t the rumored Egypt game that got axed. Apparently, Bluepoint Games (of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls remake fame) were working on a God of War GaaS game, which just got canceled. Here’s an article on it (the OG Bloomberg article has a paywall 😭): https://news.instant-gaming.com/en/a...luepoint-games

@ZaidH Are you still stuck? 😅 I think Infinite Wealth takes place in Hawaii, and they are reusing that map in Majima pirate adventure. But I am not sure how big the map is yet. This one is a new location they made, and Hawaii is not Japan, so remains to be seen how the vibe is there... It probably would be better to play Infinite Wealth than before the Majima pirate game to compare how the location evolved, if at all.

Well, that is a way, sure, but also he could just use a walkthrough? 😅

Oh my. I was not aware of God of War GaaS, but it was sad to read that the Bend Studio project was cancelled. First no sequel to Days Gone, and now this. The start of this year does have some curious gameplay decisions across the industry... Oh well...
