@DracoTarot Cyberpunk 2077 played a bit with that idea, with braindances, direct interaction between software and brain, implants, that sort of thing. Not sure if humanity will manage to go down that route. And if it does, chances are it will not be during our lifetime.

The big question for me is, will something new replace the old or remain alongside it? Some formats or practices are bound to become obsolete while others may evolve and remain.

For example, paper newspapers are in a crisis now to remain relevant. They are putting up a fight, but it is increasingly a losing one for the actual printed press (this is what is rumoured the be one of the central conflicts in the possible The Devil Wears Prada sequel, by the way). The concept did not change much: people still want news, but the format in which they look for them changed.

Or, on the other hand, take keyboard mechanics. The core principle and the design have not changed all that much since the introduction of typewriters in the 1870s, and the QWERTY format was designed back then as well and has not changed that much since either. Bedazzling to imagine how old it is. And while we got arguably more elegant keyboards connected to PCs, the design mechanic is still the same.

So the question is, will the games improve or change conceptually? We may get better graphics, more responsive reactions, more interesting stories (if we're lucky) and so forth while essentially doing the same thing people did in the 70s and 80s: sitting in front of a screen (TV or display) with some sort of interactive device (mouse+keyboard or controller). VR offers a new venue with how you perceive and interact with games, but is this a pinnacle or will we come up with something else?

Denuvo, etc., is just to keep investors and the board happy. Usually, the game is cracked after 1-2 weeks of release, and then it's Wild West again. That thing really causes some fps drops.

At the moment with PC's, if you buy top of the line GPU its usually one to two years before new models are even released as a upgrade, though I buy new GPU every 4 years or so.

@DoctorEldritch Is it really as far away as we think when it comes to interacting with software through brain implants? What about Elon and his Neuro Link? With him at the steer of things it might still happen in our lifetime. 😂

@DoctorEldritch All your points are valid. I think there will be a whole lot of things which may see improvement but also stay the same. It's all about adaptability and if people get used to something for example how the keyboard is laid out. why change it? If it works it works.

On the other hand, it would be interesting to see how all of the brilliant and innovative people out there come up with new ideas on how to improve everyone's lifestyle, especially in gaming.

Maybe handheld gaming devices will become a huge thing in the future and go as far as replacing the console. 😂

Really? It probably varies from game to game, but last I read it was a year on average? Could not find the source though, and maybe it was overstated to make it seem more impressive, I am not sure.
That thing really causes some fps drops.
This is my main issue with it. I always try to wait till games remove Denuvo (like Ledi Survivor did). If I am not alone, then it is a bit interesting as a trend: in the same statistics that claimed Denuvo can deter cracking by a year on average, I read that it is mainly used during the game release stages so that cracking of the game would not damage initial sales. If so, that's a fair point, but Denuvo may cause somewhat lower numbers as well if there are many gamers like me who prefer to wait until it is removed and not buy the game on release. No way is perfect, I guess...
I buy a new GPU every 4 years or so.
My personal gaming laptop is 7 years old, it was top of the line when I got it back then, and it still plays fine enough. Next device I'll get will probably be a tower, though, it is easier to customise them.

@DracoTarot That's not just a technology step, though. There is progress dependent mostly on the technology level, that advances fast enough. Electric cars, personal devices, rockets, etc. However, some progress is also dependent on a mix of factors. In the case of human impacts, we're also entering ethical, medical, judicial fields in addition to just technological ones, so it may take a while to tackle. Unless the technology is suddenly developed and released into the wild leaving the rest of the world to adjust, but with something as complex as implants it is unlikely to happen this way, I mean, the medical trials alone would take a while, I think.

To be fair, there is a science behind keyboard layouts and the reason why it is how it is. And there are alternatives, the most well-known of which may be Dvorak and Colemak designs. But QWERTY is so widely used that people may be reluctant to change, and tragically so: the frequency of letter usage evolves over time and design from the 1870s may indeed need an upgrade to better fit modern convenience.

With handheld devices, well, there is Legion GO. The future is today! 😉

Some companies will disable Denuvo 2-3 months after launch, so they have "kept the hype" out of the hands of pirates, and then it's Wild West. This is mainly to skip the phase of additional optimization; instead, they just remove the heavy SDK element, which will cause performance issues.

But well, that's how it is.

@DoctorEldritch I've seen a video on YouTube when Joe Rogan had Elon on his show. Joe asked Elon what the next steps are for Neuro Link and Elon said he already has a dozen neuroscientists and doctors working on a new advanced implant having all kinds of technological advances but didn't elaborate further. There's a test subject who would also be introduced into the program in 2025. This program also involves Tesla. Not sure what they have planned. Sounds exciting.

What about the new Tesla phone? Not sure if you have seen or read about it. According to Elon mentioned the phone will ultimately bring about the end to Apple and Samsung devices.

The brain adapts better to a QWERTY layout. It was scientifically proven to be easier to operate on any device. Changing the schematic will confuse.

Yeah! I am looking forward to owning my own Legion Go but do not have the funds. I will even go as far as to make hundreds of videos promoting the handheld if given the chance. Oh well, not gonna happen LOL!!

That's a neat trick. But also

@DracoTarot Probably planning to link human brains to Tesla 😅 The next step is to change the design and make them look like KITT.

Have not heard about the Tesla phone, but I am fairly critical about promises. We can circle back to it when we actually have results with it dominating the market and leaving Apple and Samsung in the dust. I don't imagine those will go without a fight 😉

Hmm, I am not sure. As a bilingual, I'd say adaptability depends on the amount of practice more than layout. Though I wonder, how easy is it for Xbox gamers to play with a PS controller and vice versa? 🤔

@DoctorEldritch There's already a Tesla model available a type of sensor that can read brain waves and body language. For example, if the person is feeling hot or the brain signals indicate the person is feeling hot, the Tesla vehicle would just the temps in the car accordingly.

Well, the Tesla phones start from $100 up to $250 which is already a big game changer. The phone has more tech than any other flagship models out there and a fraction of the price.

Here's a video if you are interested:

I think console players do not have any issue switching from an XBOX to a PlayStation controller. When they get used to the layout noting holds them back.

@DoctorEldritch Oh yeah and STALKER 2 has another patch update. 132gigs worth of updates.
