    Hello Legion Gamers!

Today is Occult Day! Day for spells, divination and hidden knowledge.

Usually, right about now I'd try and remember a few occult games, but these days, so many games have occult in one form or the other, from Cultist Simulator and Cult of the Lamb to Alan Wake and Baldur's Gate 3.

Even picking a favourite one is a bit of a challenge in a pool this big. Would probably be Pathologic for me, but mostly because it is one of my favourite games, not because it masterfully incorporates occult elements (it does though 😉). Do you have a favourite one?

Either way celebrate this day by doing something occultish, if you wish. Personally, I'll be doing a reading using tea leaves. Not that I am particularly interested in the future, but a divination method that involves having some tea is a good one in my book: even if the reading is not accurate, at least you'll have tea. 🍵

@DracoTarot I guess this may be a professional celebration for you? 😉

@DoctorEldritch Yesterday I spent almost all day online you know doing divination readings. I had a lot of people in the queue waiting for me. Some I had to book for another date.

A game I really enjoyed was Goetia. Goetia is a point-and-click adventure where you play the ghost of a young lady. You are Abigail. Abigail Blackwood. The ruins of any village are the silent testament to its final moments. The ruins of Oakmarsh are no different. Their telling silence, the dust blanketing what was once a quiet village near Coventry.

The name of a manor and the family that lived within. A perverted and mad lineage, a clan whose final members devoted their lives to mysticism and fanatical experiments. I am Abigail. Abigail Blackwood. Recently risen from the grave, I know nothing about the last 40 years of my family’s history... But obviously, somebody is keen on seeing me lift the veil on what happened in Oakmarsh - to what led to the downfall of Blackwood Manor. And it seems like I have no choice in the matter…

It's a small game and does not take much resources.

@DracoTarot Does 18th of November have some sorry of symbolism? It's not Halloween, or some sort of astrological event, I wonder why. Were those who did not manage to have a reading on that particular day disappointed, or not that much bothered by the date?

I have not played Goetia, but it does look interesting. Though not sure if I should try, as it happens, I actually live near Coventry 😅

The premise reminded me of The Darkest Dungeon a bit...

@DoctorEldritch I think it's because people like to delve into the mysteries of the universe by studying arcane magical arts. The word “occult” comes from the Latin word “occultare,” which means “secret.” Therefore, the occult was originally used as a term for the hidden mysteries of the universe and most people feel when they receive a reading much more about themselves and others will be revealed.

They are hoping for answers from their spirit guides and mostly in search of new doors opening for them.

That's why I like the game. It does have a Darkest Dungeon feel to it. Coventry looks like a nice city especially due to its history and the stores from the Middle Ages. 😊

Would like to visit there someday.

@DracoTarot Ah, Latin. One of the most mystical of languages. Notitia linguarum est prima porta sapientiae, eh? 😉

Though more than the origins of the word, I was wondering about the choice of date: 18/11. Halloween is a mystical date because of its roots in Celtic rituals from the days of yore. But what about 18/11 made it a good choice for Occult Day?

Coventry used to be better, but nowadays it's a bit shabby 😅 You're better off driving a bit more to the left and visiting Cotswolds. That's where the magic is. And hey, soon enough you can check out the Lake District without leaving the house.
