@DracoTarot Don't you have that famous Blue Line luxury train there?

@DoctorEldritch We have the Gautrains and they are gold and silver. The only decent trains but they are expensive to board and not everyone can afford them for daily commute.

Then we have yellow trains mainly for people who travel back and forth from work. They are cheap but outdated, filthy and dangerous.

The blue luxury train you are referring to is used for tourism and runs only on a specific railway line.

We have more trains our government imported from France but as per usual they are just standing in warehouses fading away into oblivion. The trains have an height issue and does not fit on the platforms and the overhead cabling is a problem.

I think they where purchased almost 12 years ago and since them nothing have been done to put them into commission.

@DracoTarot I think it is pretty much the same as everywhere else: there are cheap dirty commute trains, shiny and comfortable long-travel trains that are expensive to board and tourism experience luxury trains that are not normally used for actual A-to-B travel. It's just that yours happen to be in South Africa and mine in the UK, but it's the same everywhere, fundamentally...

It's ironic that this is actually not the first time something like that happened. France itself bought 2000 trains worth 12 billion only to discover they were too wide, and Spain had something like this too. It's like no one knows how to measure trains properly these days. So at least rest assured that it is a surprisingly common mishap 😅

@DoctorEldritch Yeah I guess everywhere in the world there are similar logistical nightmares. Some are worse than others.

It blows my mind how professionalism has gone to ground. I mean we are talking about engineers and smart people here. Something as small as a measuring tape would be sufficient enough to use and see if they are going to fit or not. It's not rocket science.

On the other hand, it's all about illegal tenders and who would benefit from it in the end. They know it's going to be an issue, but still, they go ahead with the deal.

In other countries like France and Spain, it might have been a mishap, here it's a different story.

I never knew a single broom and a mop with a bucket cost a whopping $ 800 for a government employee to clean an office. I'm not kidding you! It's all about getting rich within a month of signing the contract and no one cares about the corruption. They get away with it scott-free. 😑

@DracoTarot I think it was actually bureaucrats rather than engineers who were responsible for those mistakes. No surprise there.

This reminded me of that Tropico 6 DLC:

A lot of good social commentary in that game 😉

@DoctorEldritch I wouldn't be surprised. Bureaucrats are usually the responsible parties involved.

Tropico 6 was a great game and yeah the cometary was brilliant.😃

@DracoTarot That may be true, though occasional differences in measure systems do not help either. At one point NASA lost the Mars Climate Orbiter because of that, and it was mostly less due to human error and more because someone used the wrong unit of measurement.

It is interesting how the game subtly hints that corruption equals bankruptcy. Talk about gaming education 😉

@DoctorEldritch Or...they will cover everything up by saying...

Yeah, Tropico was good at doing that. 😂

@DracoTarot Not sure if happy accidents cost half a billion, NASA was probably not that happy 😅

Not sure if they will be making any more DLCs or move to part 7. To tell the truth, many of the latest DLCs left something to be desired, not enough social commentary...

I think I'll try Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic while we wait for whatever comes next. It's been very well received. Not sure if it actually has any social commentary, but I am hoping for the best:

I hear it is very good as far as economy gameplay mechanics are concerned, but wether it also has social commentary remains to be seen.
