@DracoTarot So it is something more like a spiritual connection than proper reincarnation? And about Valhalla, I thought it was not eternal, this is where Odin was gathering his army (true, they had some nice R&R digs there) of warriors to fight with him when Ragnarok comes and the whole world floods and starts the cycle anew. So Valhalla is sort of a luxury troops camp?

Now when I think about it, the whole Ragnarok and world starting over concept does seem like reincarnation, but on a universal rather than individual scale. Maybe Norse just thought big when it came to this...

@QueenTomato Not yet, I'll probably see him again this August, we'll see then if he's still injured 😂😂

@LockOut Rainbow Six Siege is a brain game too, a lot of strategy there, every choice, every move you make, you'll pay for it, or you'll make others pay 👀

@DoctorEldritch In the end Valhalla is a place of honour, glory and happiness. In some cases, not all Viking warriors accept Valhalla as their last resting place. It makes it so much more confusing.

Take for instance the great hero-god Baldr, he goes to the grey land of Hel beneath the earth, not to Valhalla, and even the gods cannot bring him back. The Norse sagas themselves often contradict each other in presenting their view of the afterlife and the power of the gods.

I also see it more as a spiritual connection than a proper reincarnation. It's shown that Thor and Odin are still going strong 1000 years after the Viking Age. Many think that the old Nordic religion - the belief in the Norse gods – disappeared with the introduction of Christianity. However, it did not but was instead practised secretly or under a Christian cloak and the Norse beliefs about the end of the world and how things will change go hand in hand with other religions. I think it's only the practice that differs.

@DracoTarot Well, one of the interesting aspects of Norse mythology is that it was mostly verbal with almost no written records, and the lore was told from skald to skald, so there are many confusions indeed. But that can be said about many mythologies, the Greek and Roman one has that, too.

But it is almost a requirement, I mean, we're not dealing with exact science here, and some contradictions here and there and a few paradoxes only add flair to the whole thing.

But this whole discussion made me think about the American Gods series, they had a nice take on the subject.

@DoctorEldritch I would've liked to travel back in time and see how all things came to pass especially within certain cultures and how they really functioned through the ages. I agree with you, there are a lot of unwritten events that took place in the past and many mysteries and stories the Norse, Greeks and Romans took to their graves.

Events are sometimes only on hearsay and there is no proof it really happened. I only rely onHistorical fiction to make connections between the past and present in ways that facts and dates sometimes obscure.

Haven't watched American Gods yet and will add the series to my list. Sounds Interesting!!

@DracoTarot I want to say that even Historical fiction is not fully trustworthy. I mean, historic documents do not state what actually happened, they are more to make us question what must have happened that resulted in the creation of that specific document, no record is ever truly representative of an actual event. History is written by victors and all that.

And it gets even more confusing with mythological lore that is mostly fictional. But, well, if you want to travel back in time and see how all things came to pass, we'll just have to wait for real-life Abstergo to cook up something.

@DoctorEldritch I guess you're right!!! Historical documents in some cases do carry some weight but are still questionable.

Myth is what it says. a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining a natural or social phenomenon, typically involving supernatural beings or events.

The question remains is it really Fiction or Myth? When someone experiences actual events or sees something out of the ordinary people will criticise and say it's only your imagination or a dream... or is it? A picture, video or even a book won't verify the actual occurrence. Seeing is still believing.

Do you think Elon Musk has the potential to re-invent the "BELL"? A wonder weapon used for time travel by the German Reich to win the war and to look for Nordic-looking star beings. 😁

"Fact or Fiction" Who knows LOL!!

@DracoTarot I think Elon is focused on Mars right now. But it is interesting you mention that. There is a series called The Orville (I will write an entry in the Series thread shortly), it is a parody of Star Trek, and in one of the episodes a member of space crew healed someone on a primitive planet, which resulted in that crewmember becoming a deity there (breach of protocol, too), but the planet was in a time-field that made the time pass rapidly there, and the episode follows how their culture evolved based on that one event.

@DoctorEldritch maybe if Mars becomes a reality in the future Elon will focus on more advanced tech.

My nephew is part of the Mars mission and was selected by SpaceX a few years ago. I think he was one of eight candidates. :)

@DracoTarot That's cool, go your nephew! I do not follow the Mars mission closely, does being one of 8 means he gets to go there when it's ready? Though, not sure how soon that would be, I think there was a talk of sending equipment first, like those giant 3-d printers that would print houses there before the first people land on it:

Though, Solar Opposites (will need to post that one in a cartoon section at some point, maybe) did joke about it too in the latest season:
