@ChristianRasmussen I never played them as tabletop, unfortunately, I did not have enough peers interested in that growing up, but I do not mind. Digital versions have their charm. I played all parts of Dawn of War, and Space Marine (waiting for part 2) and Mechanicus. Now I am looking at Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, I like the style but hear that the gameplay is not up to par. I may give it a try.

I also want to play Rogue Trader, but I am waiting for all the DLCs to come out first, I know they have several planned. Instead, I may try Gladius - Relics of War. After they introduced the Drukhari faction last November, now that the game has all the major and well-known factions included, so I think they will not do any more DLCs. Maybe one more weapon pack, but content-wise, it should be good to play now, I hope.

I have not tried Against the Storm yet. Do you know if they plan on adding any DLCs to it? I usually wait for all the DLCs to come out before playing, but this one slipped under my radar so I am not sure if they want to make any.

I agree with your game picks, but I have not tried that many yet. Got starter games with White Dwarf issue, but have not picked the rest of the DLCs up on sale yet. But at some point I want to try the out.

@ChristianRasmussen Wait, I am confused. White Dwarf is for tabletop games, do they also have DLCs?

They had an issue with some of the older games about and related to the hobby.

@ChristianRasmussen Ah, now I get it. I should really catch up on my journals. More so because, although the Warhammer 40K games are good and all, for hardcore tabletop enthusiasts there are now options to launch it in Tabletop Simulator software:

This way you can play as pure tabletop as it gets but digitally. All you need is some free time and friends.

Ok, I see I have to cut it out in bites sizes and maybe explain the words I use a bit more 😉

Tabletop: 2+ players play the battle on a table simulating the battlefield.

Tabletop Simulator: Exactly like tabletop, but digital (some issues with IP)

Digital: Games you can play on you own or together with friends. Total War Warhammer is a perfect example of the old game "Warhammer Fantasy Battle". True, the Tabletop game is being relunched "Warhammer - The Old World"

The advantage of games like you know, is that you can play the alone, normally tabletop games take from 3 to 6 hours to play, including setup and clean up, so sometimes hard to find the time.

I hope this cleared it up what I have been talking about.

@ChristianRasmussen I got that, I meant it more in a way that I need to read more journals on the subject. Been a while since the last time I read an actual gaming journal, these days it's more sites and videos and all that.

I just wanted to say that, thanks to Tabletop Simulator Warhammer now has a middle ground between purely physical tabletop where you need to actually move minifigures and purely digital gaming experience, there is a mixed option, as you said.

Yes, but it has some big and small problems too. Games Workshop IP does not allow you to reproduce the models in any way, also not digital.

The Tabletop Simulator does not have a good measure tool, would like it a lot more is they implement it.

@ChristianRasmussen You are right, they can be rather overprotective when it comes to models. But I am hopeful for a positive trend: I think they start to realise that allowing them to be used is ultimately good publicity. All those new games and series are coming out, Henry Cavill left Witcher to work on the new Warhammer 40K series for Amazon, so maybe the situation will gradually change.

Personally, I sort of get the impression that Tabletop Simulator gets away with not having some good functions just because there are almost no alternatives. So when fans ask for something, it can say "We'll do it when we'll do it, and if that takes too long, tough luck, but where else will you go?". Wut they do gradually add functionalities, so at least that's good.

I do not think that they think in the same way. They are extremely protective of their IP and not even fan stories on youtube where allowed to exist because of them.

Tabletop Simulator gets away with it more because the people from Games Workshop (GW) looking at it do not know how it really works. All the functions are there if you want to add them, but it is addons or files you have to load into the system. The base system is not going against GW, so they can do nothing about it.
