Hello Legion Gamers!

We started talking about the best games we played in 2023, but for every light, there is a shadow, so we must not neglect the worst games of 2023 and the lessons that can be learned from those fails.

And to help with that, Metacritic announced the ten top worst games of 2023 (or is it "ten bottom best? Terminology is confusing in cases like this). Not surprisingly, Gollum got the most "Razzies" and is in the lead, @GoLLuM13, @Saka and I talked about its sad fate before. But what of the rest? Well, here is a list from Metacritic:

Lord of the Rings: Gollum - 34 out of 100 points
Flashback 2 - 35 points
Greyhill Incident - 38 points
Quantum Mistake - 40 points
Testament: Order of the Tall Man - 41 points
Crime Boss: Rocky City - 43 points
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd - 47 points
Gangs of Sherwood - 48 points
Loop8: Summer of Gods - 49 points
Gargoyles Remastered - 49 points

We need to remember that only games with over 7 reviews made it to the list, so games like Skull Island: Rise of Kong (23 points) and The Walking Dead: Destinies (29 points) are not represented here, bad though they were 😅

I have not tried most of these (which is kind of the point of reviews), but I did try two of them: Hellboy: Web of Wyrd and Gargoyles Remastered.

With Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, I would not say it is not outright bad per se, just extremely mediocre (imho), which for this character and setting is a crime. Poor Hellboy is very unlucky when it comes to video games and movies, I think.

As for Gargoyles Remastered, I think it suffers from being a remaster in its basic form: all the developers did was change the graphic, but they did not add anything new or improve the (let's face it) extremely outdated gameplay. Seems like they wanted to play the nostalgia card, which was a popular trend in 2023 (cough-System Shock-cough), but this goes to show that just nostalgia is not enough. Something for the future remasters hopefully to remember. And that's another two cents in @GoLLuM13 and my talk of remasters from October.

And though I have not tried it yet, too bad for Gangs of Sherwood. I was excited about that one, though mostly thanks to their musical trailer 😅

OMG what a surprise, Gollum is on the top of the list of the 10 worst games 😜 not even "The Scam Before" 🤣
Personally, I don't remember playing a "bad" game this year 🤔 either it was so insignificant that it got out of my memory, or I really didn't play a bad game this year 🤔 I played games / betas that I didn't like, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily bad games though

@GoLLuM13 To be fair, "The Scam Before" was a late entry into the race. And it is also an open question of whether or not it can be called a proper game,m even.

The devil may be in the details with this one. You may not have played the "bad", but out of all that you did play, can you name the one that you liked least?

But that is not the best way to phrase it either. How about this: what games this year did you start but delete without finishing them?

@DoctorEldritch Too many, I almost never finish games even if I like them, because of time, loss of focus ... etc
But the game I liked the least this year was probably the Beta of a game that I can't talk about because of NDA, but I might say, it's about boats and pirates, and we shall see it next year 👀

@GoLLuM13 I have the same thing, though in my case I can't bring myself to delete them and they end up clogging my PC space. I've been working on that and forcing myself to actually say "Ok, this game is not working for me, I will not finish it and delete it and that will be that". It is somehow surprisingly harder than it seems for me...

Ah, I wonder what game that could be 🤔

@GoLLuM13 What I am trying at the moment is a reverse of "swear jar". Never seen them irl, but the series sometimes have those jars where you need to put some money in if you say a swear word. In my case, I got a jar of Belgium chocolate truffles and it sits in my drawer and I take one every time I manage to convince myself to delete a game like that. Something like this:



I make my love for chocolate work in my favour. So far so good, though I do notice I started to delete more games just so I could eat chocolate, but you know, you win some, you lose some 😅
