It's on X-Twitter that we learn that after more than two decades, the E3 show is bidding us farewell. Just when we thought it would return soon and perhaps reinvent itself, it won't.

E3, for Electronic Entertainment Expo, was first held in 1995, 28 years ago, and was the high point for video game enthusiasts, initially reserved for professionals and the press before opening up to the general public. It was an opportunity to discover new games and machines to come. Gradually, however, publishers and manufacturers began to take distance from the show, notably by holding online conferences of their own, which enabled them to control their communications. Then came the Coronavirus period, which virtually ended the show, as it was cancelled in 2020, only to return very weakly in 2021 and be cancelled again in the years that followed (2022 and 2023).

As you can imagine, the lack of interest from the big names in doing their own show or going to Summer Game Fest, followed by the pandemic, meant that the show lost popularity and was less and less well attended.

Before we say goodbye to E3, let's share our favorite memories one last time, one of the ones that stood out for me (you can see me coming) was at E3 2016 with the trailer for the reboot of "God of War", which I'll let you discover below:

What do you think of this news? And don't hesitate to share with us a moment that stood out for you!

@GoLLuM13 I read about it yesterday. But, to be honest, I myself did not follow this particular event all that much, so I was not too devastated by the news. It is sad, of course, but such is the flow of time, even if 28 years is impressive, and hopefully, we will get a "The King is dead, long live the King!" moment: now that E3 is gone, which con would claim the title of oldest game-only convention?

@DoctorEldritch Obviously I followed this convention and even dreamed to attend since I was a kid (even if I knew I will never have this chance). I used to read about new things to come on magazines, then it was on TV on specialized video games channels, and obviously it ended on internet with so many specialized websites and some vlogs on YouTube. The irony, I never went there but here I am writing something about it for its end.

And to answer you, the next big thing would be the TGS (Tokyo Game Show) it's around since 1996 so it's 27 years old, and it's doing real good, they know how to do things

@GoLLuM13 Somehow I am not too versed when it comes to getting the latest gaming news, my search ends up being rather selective. As in, if I am interested in a game or developer and follow it, I know most things about it, but for "generic" everyday unspecialised game news, I often arrive too late to the party.

So it is nice that shows like this exist where the most important things are presented at once, even if they do disappear sometimes. Though Tokyo is so far away, it is nigh impossible to hope to visit. While E3 was a US thing TGS could probably be seen and Asian territory-wise, I guess for Europe the biggest even now is Gamescom in Cologne? That one is more realistic to visit, at least...

@DoctorEldritch I think you're right Gamescom is probably the biggest event in Europe

@GoLLuM13 Let's hope it will be alive and kicking for some years still. At least until we visit it a least once and get the T-shirt that we did.
