Black Friday is only a week away, and many vendors started their discount parades already. Steam even put a summary up so no one would miss any saving opportunities!

So now is the good time to ask, do you have any purchase plans for this annual discount galore?

Myself, last year I had my eye on a new monitor, and thank you @GoLLuM13 and @DracoTarot for helping me choose one, but due to some personal circumstances, I ended up not buying one. I fear all your expertise was wasted on me this time, but maybe someday...

This year, I am not planning for something quite as big, but I do need a new pair of headphones, so this is what's on the menu for me. And that's not counting smaller stuff like grabbing games I want to play cheaply if I see them.

What about you, got any things you want to buy waiting for the end of November?

I wanted an Echo Show 8 Gen 3 to replace a malfunctioning Google Hub Gen 2 for which I had a "refund", but the Echo Show are still a bit expensive for the allowed budget that I had, so I ended up taking a very cheap Echo Pop and a PopMount 2 Desk Stand for my phone 👀

@GoLLuM13 I am afraid I am a bit out of the loop with tablets. Only this autumn I bought my first ever (yes, you read that right) smartphone. So I am afraid I am far from being able to understand the tablet plight. But are you happy with the one you got, at least?

@DoctorEldritch That's OK I had my one and only tablet in 2013 and never replaced it because I don't use it a lot. But Echo Show 8 and Google Hub are tablets, they are smart assistants with a screen or smart displays if you prefer, I use them to turn on/off lights, plugs, TVs, do a timer or an alarm, know the weather, my agenda (like for game together and today's event) and so on.

@GoLLuM13 Does the...quality of digital assistance vary greatly from cheaper to more expensive models, or more expensive ones have more features? As in, what is the primary reason for wanting to upgrade the model?

@DoctorEldritch to be honest I prefer Google's products but since their display is incompatible with my router and I already have an Amazon Echo Show 5 Gen 2 that works so I guess I'll rely on Amazon. The difference between a Show 5 and Show 8 of the same gen will mostly have to do with screen size 5" vs 8" number of mics and sound quality, but my choice for an 8 would be because of the screen size I won't have to quint to see what time is it during the night.
As for the echo pop that I bought, it's a simple assistant without the screen, and the sound isn't bad but not as good as the other Echo devices, I'll put it in another room, while I'll use the Show 5 in place of the Google Hub that was in my bedroom 👀

@DoctorEldritch kinda yeah 👀 at least I'm trying to make it as smart as possible. The days when my back hurt, and I'm stuck in bed, I always think that was a good thing to have those 😁

@GoLLuM13 That makes sense. Just be careful not to make it too smart. There is a disturbing amount of thrillers out there these days that tell a story of a house AI revolt.
