    Hello Legion Gamers!

The tasty Food Month is over, and while I am sad to see it go, we're now entering the exciting new month of October! And traditionally, same as last year, here in Legion Community, this month is dedicated to all things spooky culminating in the kooky Halloween! 👻

Last year we dedicated this month to talking about different monsters. If memory serves, back then we started with vampires, then talked about ghosts and finally explored different plagues and diseases (with a slight nod towards zombies there as those often rise due to some form of virus). And at the very end, we briefly touched on famous fictional killers.

So this time around we can look into bloodsuckers and spirits and the rest again, and/or we can talk about monsters we ignored last time (demons, aliens and predator beasts are probably feeling neglected). So the first question of the spooky month is:

Do you have a favourite monster?

@Saka this one is actually eerie. It shouldn't be scary but the art style and the character design makes it grim even though it looks more like a kids story or something 😅.
Reminds me of The Nameless Monster from Naoki Urasawa's Monster.

Frankenstein or dracula, I always get goosebumps whenever I read or watch a movie about them or they are even mentioned in
    That's for the foreign cultures

My favorite monster from my culture is "Alnaddaha" which is very beautiful women that rise from small lakes at night in villages and she has irresistible voice that the victim follows till pulled to water, and usually his body is found next days with terrified face expressions. 👻

@Saka Oh nice, though personally, I have always seen Groke as more of a tragic character than a malicious one (although the parallel to a degree could be drawn here with Frankenstein's Monster that @MustafaM7moud mentioned, he too is a tragic one) But I guess Groke could fall into more broad "frost spirits" category along with Yuki-onna and Itztlacoliuhqui?

@BelalSaid Wait, I am confused, I thought The Nameless Monster from Naoki Urasawa's Monster was a human serial killer?

This is a good one. I always find it interesting to follow myth variations between different cultures. "Alnaddaha" is an interesting monster, and I wonder if it is connected in any way to the Japanese Nure-Onna:

It is not a fully beautiful woman, only the head is of one, but she lives in places such as rivers, oceans, and lakes. Though there are different sources as to how to make her agitated: some say she actively hunts humans by means of magical disguise and then drains them of their blood with her tongue, but then there are other sources that say that she is actually not aggressive and just wants to wash her hair and will only attack if someone interrupts her while she's doing that.

@DoctorEldritch A monster doesn't have to be malicious in my opinion. And The Groke is definitely spooky, my SO has childhood trauma when the anime episode featuring it aired with darkened colours by mistake. It looked really dark compared to the original release.

That's impressive to find similarities between different cultures in a time there was no any kind of connection between them even they aren't that big.

"Alnaddaha" is a result of Egypt being agricultural country which required water paths and small lakes when there was no electricity, only candles and lanterns which was a fertile environment for so many myth back then

I had so much fun listening to them as a kid, but couldn't go to sleep while lights off though 😂

Wish one day we have the technology to make some movies or series telling these stories to new generations, all existing ones are poor and don't express a lot

I also enjoy reading "Paranormal" book series by dr.Ahmed Khaled Tawfeek which not only mentioned our own old myths, but in it he also travels abroad to tell many foreign myths, gotta love this series

@DoctorEldritch Johan was indeed a serial killer as you'd call him or rather a monster. An unrecognised one eaten up from the inside out by the nihilism, looking for a purpose for existence or rather a name.
The Nameless Monster is a fictional character from the Monster series, it's mentioned in the Obluda as you can see the photo I sent. The Nameless Monster goes on journey to find a name and whenever he finds it, he destroys it to feed his hunger. Same as Johan, a serial killer looking for a meaning in life, but since he's a mentally unstable psychopath, he can't find one. So he wanders around destroying everything around him to feed his hunger or rather to feed The Nameless Monster inside of him.
