    Hello Legion Gamers!

Today is "Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day" (among other things). Not sure how many of us have kids of our own, personally, I only have a niece but she is just over a year old, so does not cook yet. @GoLLuM13, does your niece cook?

I thought it would be a good day to ask about when you started cooking (if at all) and what did you cook when you were a child? I started cooking with a hardboiled egg (just because it's difficult to screw up), but my speciality was chocolate oatmeal balls (incidentally, today is also chocolate day).

You melt some butter mixed with honey in a pot, then add cocoa powder while stirring until you get a mass, and then pour in some oats and stir so they got covered in and soak in the chocolate sauce. Then you make them into little balls and let them cool. Ended up looking something like this:

Very easy and with few ingredients, that was my childhood recipe. The hardest bit was scrubbing the pot afterwards.

Did you cook anything as a child?

I have been helping as a kid in the kitchen, the first time I actually cooked was when I was in primary school and my mum was down with some sort of crappy flu. I remember I made pork chops, but unfortunately, the breading got slightly burned, as I had no experience heating the pan.

@Saka Still, pork chops are good for primary school, I did not start to fry until much later. Even now I do not really like to fry. I am more into boiling and steaming and baking.

@DoctorEldritch I am actually pretty good at frying, although I don't cook much nowadays. When my health declined my spouse took care of the cooking and he has been good enough at it, so he still is usually the one doing it. He asks me to do stuff when there's something I am better at than him or something more exotic.

Just don't ask me to deep fry. *shudders*

I got some nasty burns on my hand a few years ago and I am lucky enough that I only have faint traces of it. Still, there's a deep trauma after the incident.

@DoctorEldritch She always liked helping in the kitchen, she's 11 now, and sometimes she can cook by herself or with little help. 2 Days ago she did pancake banana flavored.

When I was like 9 all I did was helping or doing by myself omelettes with cheese, at around 11 I learned to do grilled meats and fry some french fries, few years later I learned to do mayonnaise, which led me to do my own hamburgers and sandwiches 😂 (that's what I like)

@GoLLuM13 You're making your own mayonnaise?

@GoLLuM13 Why not? I never made my own, but I am very particular about how I like it, I don't like most of store-bought ones, and it is hard for me to find the one I can use.

@DoctorEldritch because there is too much fat in mayonnaise 👀 (especially if you add it to everything else in a sandwich, for example 😜)

@DoctorEldritch Homemade mayonnaise can be really nice and it's up to you what spices to add to it, so there can be plenty of choice.
