    Hello Legion Gamers!

The month of Food has started and, unlike when eating a course meal, we're starting it with a dessert! Why, you may ask? Because today is the 4th of September, Eat an Extra Dessert Day!

And really, there are few things more joyous than eating a good dessert. Double for eating it twice!

And to celebrate this day, you only need to, you guessed it, eat your favourite dessert twice! So the big question is: What is your favourite dessert?

I'd say my favorite in this case would be a triple chocolate chip cookie:

Of course, there are more exotic varieties out there, more complex taste combos, and let's not forget ice cream, but there is an allure in the simplicity of a cookie. And, unlike bigger and more complex desserts, there is always a place for one more!

Though, that being said, that also depends on your definition of dessert. Do you think it is something that needs to be cooked in some way or not, for example, can fresh fruit by itself be considered a dessert? If so, then my favourite would be sour cherries. I love them so much that when they are in season, I usually eat about 700 grams every single day for about 2 months. I could definitely double that, too! Ah, cherries... 🍒

Those are my desserts of choice. What are yours?

@DoctorEldritch Oh dear. Now you made me miss the quadruple chocolate cookies from Tesco. We had one of the chains in Finland importing them prior to Brexit. Unfortunately, after the deed was done the cooperation was discontinued and the chain is importing Carrefour stuff instead. There aren't many things I like in the new import selection.

In my opinion fruit can be dessert too, my favourite would be strawberries. Regrettably, I missed out on them this year if you don't count some Finnish ones. Nothing wrong with the Finnish ones, but they sort of taste like a different fruit than those I eat in Poland. Probably the difference in climate.

This is what those cookies looked like when they were sold here:

Pictures are from some blog that reviewed them, not mine. But if you stumble upon those cookies, I can recommend them. Very sweet though. Good company for very dark tea or coffee.

@Saka Quadruple! Whatever will they think of next? I will look out for them next time I am in the UK.

They look good, though I personally prefer ones from bakeries made on the day, not ones packed to last for a longer time. But it's a matter of taste, as it always is with food.

Is it completely impossible to get them in Finland? Maybe some sort of delivery service?

@DoctorEldritch Finland is lacking in such services. I think there is not much demand. Finns tend to be suspicious of unfamiliar stuff. Takes some effort to introduce them to flavours they don't know.

Regarding cookies, I personally prefer fresh cookies as well, but there are not as many bakeries there. Usually I would have to bake those cookies myself. I don't always have the energy or time to do so.

The Tesco cookies are pretty good for store-bought ones. Not very dry.

@Saka If there is one thing people should be always open to it's trying new foods, I think. But maybe it will take some time still.

Delivery does not need to be Finland-based. I think services like Britsuperstore ship British produce worldwide, maybe something similar could work?

People say you can't beat homemade cookies, but I never had the patience. But there are superstores with in-house bakeries, those work well for me. If you have any of those around, that could be a way.

@DoctorEldritch Only Lidl carries cookies of this kind. Otherwise you would have to go to a bakery or cafe to get those. I don't go to Lidl very often as it's not in the most convenient place for me.

Problem with global shipping is that it gets expensive these days, and that's a lot of hassle just to get cookies. I can get close enough by making my own triple-chocolate chip cookies. Won't have the bottom dipped in milk chocolate, but that's not a huge deal.

... although I think I might have "mice" in my flat. Whenever I bake cookies they mysteriously vanish very quickly.

@Saka Lidl does have that feature of showcasing products of different locales, but I do not really go there either.

It may be worth it if you buy in bulk. I like a certain kind of lingonberry sauce (it is designed to be sauce, but I eat it like jam instead) that is not sold in the UK, but Amazon can ship it for me from Europe. They only sell it in bulk with minimal order of 4 jars, but I can keep them for a long, so I do not mind one larger order as opposed to many smaller ones. Maybe you can order a year's worth of cookies at once and save that way?

Though if they disappear as fast as you say, I am not sure...

Where are the American-style Girl Scouts selling cookies door-to-door when you need them?

I think cookies may suffer from the same ailment of "spontaneous implosion" as chocolate, I remember us talking about it some time ago. 😅

@DoctorEldritch Yeah, I am afraid that if I ordered cookies in bulk, I'd find some very fat mice in the flat eventually. 🤔

@Saka Perhaps, but one may argue that having a supply of cookies is worth an occasional obese rodent. Or you can get a cat?
