@Saka I'd say it depends. At one point me and @ZaidH had a discussion about graphics in Warhammer 40K, and I remember using this example of graphics done right:

It's just, the graphic supports the atmosphere. For me, in StarCraft II, it clashed with the vibe of the first part rather than supporting it. But you're right, it may be that me, as a gamer who is in it for the single-player and the story, graphics may be more important than for the majority that plays for the multiplayer component.

Either way, it is not the major factor even for me, it would be best is it turned out to be a decent RTS gameplay-wise. It's been ages since we had a good one of those.

@DoctorEldritch Speaking of the multiplayer mode, there might be another reason for simplified graphics. It might be easier to follow the game for spectators who aren't active players themselves.

StarCraft II, at least historically, was able to attract viewers who didn't know much about the game, but were interested in watching the high level competitive players at tourneys, especially those like IEM. Even now @Aaricia said she had fun watching, even though she had no idea what was going on (I was trying to explain a bit 😁).

I think you're right. And also more simple graphics are probably easier on the connection.
