@GoLLuM13 I remember starting games in DOS screen with that big blue table of commands. Did not need to type in commands, but needed to know where to go to look for games, that was before the Windows operating system came by the way we know it.

Progress indeed is making things easier. Ah, the times when you needed to go to the actual shop to buy games on those round shiny things, eh?

@DoctorEldritch believe or not, sometimes I still go to actual shops to buy video games, especially with my niece on her birthday, so she can see and choose whatever she wants as her gift 😁

    And it's sort of cat-themed, too! 😉

@GoLLuM13 on a more serious note, we do not have any of those shops left at all where I am now, they are becoming a rarity. Soon they may go the same way as vinyl records and become the realm of enthusiasts.

@DoctorEldritch Nice one with Mufasa and Simba 😂 the only digital game she plays is on my secondary Ubisoft account, and it's Rainbow Six as you can easily guess 😜

And you're right physical games are rare, some even stopped selling them and sell wallet gift cards instead. For a little collector like me, it's really sad ☹️

@GoLLuM13 If memory serves, Rainbow Six is rated M. Are you preparing your niece for the harsh realities of the world from a young age?

Many PCs do not even have a CD drive these days, to read a CD you need to buy an external reader device. I understand the convenience of digital distribution, but there was something special about owning a physical copy...

On the topic of cats, I just recently finished Miles Morales, so here is Spider-Man the Cat:

I haven't played these action RPG games myself, but I did wonder about them when I saw them on discount on Steam in the past:

@DoctorEldritch you are right it's rated M but when you read this you'll understand easily why it's "overrated" with M. She only plays when I'm with her, never alone, I always tell her this is just a game not reality we don't do this in reality, even if she already knows. I cut the online vocal and text chat for her (which means no one can talk to her or insult her, people are really toxic) the only person she can hear is me on Discord (or next to her). On the other hand, I won't let her play Mortal Kombat for example, which is really violent for her age.

I have an external optical drive, but I barely use it 👀

@GoLLuM13 I know that some movies, at least where I grew up, had this rating of "children below 16 can go with adult supervision", as in, it is possible for young kids to watch them if their parents or guardians think it is ok and watch it with them, it was a real actual rating. But I don't remember seeing something like that applied to games, not sure if it exists. But from this article and your description, I'd say something like this should be applicable to the games as well.
