    Hello Legion Gamers!

Call out to all the geeks of our community, today is our day! The 13th of July, almost in the middle of the Summer, is Embrace Your Geekness Day!

The origin of Embrace Your Geekness Day can be traced back to 2006 when a group of geeks wanted to create a special day dedicated to celebrating their shared interests. And it is a truly geeky day, even this date, July 13th, is symbolic as it pays homage to the popular “Star Wars” phrase, “May the Force be with you” (May the 4th), as well as being a play on words, representing the binary code 1’s and 0’s. Let's see how many of us celebrate this day!

What exactly does it mean to be a geek? In a very geeky fashion, I dug up the first definition of the word, so here is a bit of trivia:

Geek was originally an early 20th-century term for a carnival worker who was so unskilled that the only thing the worker could do at the carnival to entice an audience was to bite off the heads of live animals.

A bit of a morbid origin of the word, I think. Thankfully, we do not get as many carnival shows on the loose these days as we had back in those wild times, not to mention that language evolves and changes (like the perception of Disney cartoons that @Saka mentioned), and so did the meaning behind the word "geek".

Geeks are now more generally described as “more community-oriented,” more likely to engage in “fannish” behaviour such as collecting memorabilia, and more interested in trends, and are now considered far more desirable for their expertise and enthusiasm for even esoteric topics @DracoTarot, your Tarot fit here, I think!) than in the past.

But don't take my word for it! Simon Pegg put it quite eloquently:

So congratulations to you if you are a geek or think that you might be one (are you or do you?) And if you're not, maybe you should be? 😉 I am one, it's great.

Embrace Your Geekness Day reminds us that we’re not alone in our Geekness, it nurtures our geeky individualities and self-expressions, inspires creativity and helps build connections and communities, Legion being one of them! So how to celebrate this awesome day?

The best way to mark it is to proclaim your geeky interests to the world. And all of us here, I hope, share at least one of them: our love for video games!

I'll start by adding that personally, in addition to video games, my geeky interests include anime and fantasy and sci-fi series and books. Always wanted to get more into comics as well, but there are only 24 hours in a day...

What about you? Any geeky interests to share on this special day? The floor is yours!

@DoctorEldritch Oh my, that's a really morbid origin of the word. Glad it means something else nowadays.

I would say I am a geek too! There are topics in which I am a walking wikipedia, confusing even people with longer a career in the matter. 😊

I got that impression in some topics we talked about. But what would you say is your favourite topic of all time and the one you feel most knowledgeable about if you can name just one?

@DoctorEldritch I was called a geek numerous times due to the collection of Tarot cards and vapes I own.

Ironically, one of the vape companies I promote is called Geekvape. 😂

Here is my collection in all its glory.

And what do you think, do you agree with those who call you that?

@DracoTarot This is a lot of vapes! What is drawn on them, I think I can make out the samurai armour (maybe?) on the one on the right, but not the rest. Just curious about what images a company that portrays itself with a "geek" term would choose for design.

@DoctorEldritch Uhhh... I don't know. I suspect I may not be neurotypical and tend to get hyperfixated on things, so there are several different kinds of topics where I know a lot. That's just my feeling though, queues for professionals are very long so it would be a good while before I get any diagnosis.

@DoctorEldritch I have no problem if someone calls me a geek. Maybe I am and that's how people see me.

Those vapes are but a few. I have 56 in my collection and more are coming my way soon.

Here's the one with the Samurai design. I think @Saka would also like the artwork.

@Saka It is good to know a lot about things no matter the reason, I remember there was a character in Scrubs who was a doctor with OCD and he was very good particularly because of this condition. So I'd say it is an advantage at best and a silver lining at worst.

Though I have to admit that the topics that I think I am knowledgeable in are not that geeky and are mostly professional. Not to mention that being "knowledgeable" is a subjective thing. @ZaidH would testify, I hope, that I have some level of knowledge about Warhammer 40K lore, but I will be first to admit that there are people far more knowledgeable than me.
@DracoTarot the artwork is beautiful, and I like how they homage to classic Japanese waves in the upper corners. Just, I think it is more Oni than Samurai. It's the teeth. But you know best.

@DoctorEldritch A diagnosis would be just a tool to help me understand what I am dealing with. I have been struggling with certain things for as long as I can remember, but I seem to be pretty good at pretending, so a lot of my trouble has just gone unnoticed by most. I've been mostly worried about my memory issues, but if I actually have ADHD, that would explain a lot... at least I would be able to answer to people complaining about my attention span of a goldfish or worried that I have Alzheimer's.
@DracoTarot That's a nice design. And about Doctor's note, that seems to be Akai Oni armor. Samurai often wore masks, although I am not sure about the reasoning behind that. I probably read about it once and forgot. I once digested plenty books about Japan from Edo and Meiji era, but it was years ago. I have an album showing many historical outfits, but alas it's not with me, but behind at my parents' house. I need to retrieve it at some point.

@DoctorEldritch Geek Vape is known for its awesome designs on their vapes. I do not know much about the Samurai culture and in my eyes, it looks like one LOL! If you say it's more Oni, I agree with you.

I have another model called the T200. It reminds me of Terminator and you'll notice why. This vape has a beautiful chrome body with a huge touch display. The interface is upgradable and I'm able to add photos and pictures to the home screen. The tank I use on the device is called a Zeus tank.

I just had to share T200 and all its geekiness!😂

@Saka I must agree the design leans more towards Akai Oni. I have no clue why they would say it's a Samurai design on the packaging. I do have a PDF somewhere about all the Japanese and Chinese traditions and how they trained for war and the weapons and armour they used.

The book may have some interesting facts.
