Hello Legion Gamers!

The new Month of Sports is here, and brings with it a new Crossword Puzzle. Last one we had was back in May about Fantasy and Fiction, and this time around it will be, you guessed it, focused on sports.

But it is all still fiction as (almost) none of the sports hidden in the puzzle are real. They all come from fictional stories, be it in books, films or video games. So it will (hopefully) test your knowledge of different whimsical fantasy sports. Here it is:



And here are the clues:

ACROSS
3. This iconic sport features players riding bikes with trails of light emitting behind them.
6. This space-era sport is a mix of basketball and rugby played on a triangular-shaped court.
7. A martial arts sport from the 24th century where contestants wear full-face helmets so they cannot see.
9. This sport was born from a combo of stretchy spring-like arms and unusual boxing gloves.
10. The game starts with two teams armed with Energy Swords and Gravity Hammers making a run for a bomb in the center of the field.
11. To play this sport you need a smartphone, thirteen balls of varying sizes, bats made of glass, some chalk to mark the many end zones, a quaffle, and Kevlar body armor.

4. This incredibly brutal sport was purposely invented for the movie, but nowadays it has real-life competitions with a little less gore.
5. A game in which players hit each other as hard as possible, then run far away and apologize.
8. This racing sport features the most famous Italian plumber.
12. The games of this sport are commented on by the best announcer of all time, Grim Blitzrow.
13. The most famous sport you play while flying on a broom. Need I say more?
15. In this sport, two teams of cars fight for control over an oversized ball.
19. This sport features multiple puns on real-world elements and is overseen by a deity named Nuffle.
It is a big one with 22 words to guess. The rules are simple as with word search:

@DoctorEldritch I recently watched Star Trek Into Darkness. I actually took a wild guess on this one.

@DracoTarot Did you watch it for its anniversary? That film turns 10 years old this year.

Personally, my favorite Star Trek series of late is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, I think it captures the feel of the original series best out of all the recent ST series. I think I'll mention it in our series thread.

@DoctorEldritch I was scrolling through my movie library and decided to watch the movie again. It's one of the movies I never finished due to interruptions.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was great and I enjoyed it.

I hate it when I have interrupted when watching movies, it agitates me that I have not finished something. I try to finish them fast otherwise I feel uncomfortable. Strangely, I do not have this feeling when I pause movies myself.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently streaming a second season, I am looking forward to binge-watching it. I made a note of that in our Games+Series thread.

It was good to reflect on the Star Trek universe from that one sports word. Let's see what word will be guessed next.
