Interesting to see Guild Wars II being offered in the games night. I used to play this game a lot. Haven't recently due to lack of people to play with.

@Saka We're looking into more variety in our Game Nights, so more changes to come! I never tried Guild Wars 2 myself, is it kind of like WoW?

@DoctorEldritch It's actually quite different from WoW. There is no gear treadmill and the progression is horizontal. So with proper max-level gear you will be fine in any of the expansions the game had. The game also has a system where the high level players scale down to the map level, making it so that you can level almost anywhere, as long as you meet the minimum level for the zone. Many older maps also don't get deserted, as there can be max-level stuff going on in them as well.

@Saka No gear treadmill is good news and seems they put more thought into the level system. Strange that the game does not have more people with a system like that. What about gameplay, though?

@DoctorEldritch The gameplay is fun! The combat is more dynamic than in wow, but each class has just 10 keys plus some extra action buttons, depending on the class. The special keys would be using F keys by default (of course, you can freely remap keys). So there's no button bloat.

The game really deserves more players! It's really good, the problem is that it has a relatively small team, so there can be a drought of new content, and the marketing team is... not doing good. They miss out on opportunities to advertise the game and the messages are pretty weak.

@Saka Is it important for gameplay to have more players? I mean, the world feels more alive with more people, and that is one of WoW points, but to do quests and go on missions for NPCs and all, what would be the good size of the party?

@DoctorEldritch There is a lot of story and open world content where you are fine playing solo. It's just the group content, such as dungeons and raids that requires more players. The standard party size is 5 players. Instanced raids are for 10 players. There can be open world raids (known as squads) that can have up to 50 players.

@Saka I wish we could, but I think 50 is a bit of a tall order for now, but 5 to 10 players would hopefully be doable. And maybe some may want to try solo after that, too.

Is the game enforcing this number? I mean, if you want to do a dungeon with, say, just 3 or 4 people, will the game let you (but it may be harder), or does the game need you to get more people before it lets you into the dungeon?

@DoctorEldritch Oh, the open world content doesn't require that many people to be grouped up. There are always going to be some people outside of the squads. What I meant is the maximum capacity. So you can technically put the 50 people in the squad, sort them and make sure the buffs are optimized in the squad. That would give an advantage over 50 solo people in the map.

You can do dungeons with fewer people. There are even some people who take pride in soloing stuff, similarly to soloing in other games. I have done raids with 7-8 people. Obviously, not all the content is possible that way due to DPS checks or mechanics.
