@DoctorEldritch you can dive into Sonic and Rayman worlds without knowing anything about them, but I can tell you that Sonic is the main hero, Tails (the fox) is his friend, Dr Robotnik (or Eggman for the US) is the vilain he wants to emprison the little chaos (read it tcha-os) the little animals you save in the end of the first Sonic Games, later on we had Knuckles some red I don't know what speccy is this lol, Eggman made him think that Sonic wants some kind of big diamond to take its power and conquer the world, Knuckles fell in the trap and chased Sonic while Eggman took the diamond this is when Knuckles understood and made an alliance with Sonic and Tails... and there are some secondary characters that I easily forgot about except Mecha-Sonic (an invention of Eggman) and Amy the girl addition to the band.
Obviously each character has its mechanics, Sonic is the super speed, Tails with his tails can do the helicopter and fly, Knuckles can float and climb and Amy has a big hammer.

Anyway I think I gave more details than I should do, but like a Mario or any classic platformer, there's a story but it isn't the most important part, and you can play a game without playing the others, there isn't any real connection between them

Same thing goes for Rayman especially those on sale right now, they are reboots, so clocks back to 0 👀

@GoLLuM13 Thank you, now I know a bit of what is going on. To be honest, I like games for the plot, so I'd normally go for something more complex, but this can be fun for a few evenings of light entertainment.

Interesting you should compare it to Mario, I find it curious how Italian plumber managed to move further than Sonic into the popular culture, or maybe it just seems that way to me. I mean, even those who never played Mario would know "The Princess is in another castle". I wonder if Rayman or Sonic, too, have a recognizable phrase like that which even people who never played the games would know, but I could not think of any.

I may grab a few to add to the platformer section of my list. We do not get too many good platformers these days, since Psychonauts 2 I don't think we had any...
