@DracoTarot I have not played it, I'm afraid. Horror single-player games are a bit too much for me. Though that being said, it depends on your definition of horror. I can play Alan Wake or Control or Scratches fine. So maybe this game would not be so bad.

What the producers are doing seems to be a modernized version of seances that were popular during Victorian times when people tried to commute with spirits even for entertainment. So I can see that the approach has a decent track record.

Incidentally, all this talk about Banshees reminded me of another Metal song from the Brutal Legend game:

Could be a nice addition to the thread by @galadrielmt. Or maybe you or @GoLLuM13 may like it.

@DoctorEldritch Alan Wake was a brilliant game and still is. I would really like to see a remake or a whole new game in the future.

Communicating the old-fashioned way with spirits seems to attract more attention and has a more ominous feel. It helps with ratings and captivates viewers.

I miss Brutal Legend on XBOX. Played the game for hours on end. I'm not really fond of the song and the band.

Well if Banshees are a subject I can add Siouxsie and the banshees to the list. They are an old-school goth band from the 80's

@DracoTarot About Alan Wake, they made a remaster of the first game and are working on the second, and they plan to join Alan Wake and Control in one "universe", which is why one of Control DLCs is focused on Alan. So your wish should come true yet. 😉

To be honest, I'd rather people leave spirits alone IRL. It's all good and fun in games, but real seances and ghost hunts are a bit... sensation-seeking? Poor ghosts just want to be left alone and haunt in peace, and there are all those people bothering them. Worse than paparazzi, no wonder ghosts are so cranky if they are found. So next time you see "GET OUT" scratched on the wall, it is best not to take out the Ouija board, but do what the sign says.

I did not know Xbox no longer has Brutal Legends. But you can get it in Steam still, and not that expensive, too.

Siouxsie would probably fit in @galadrielmt thread, though I do not know them.

@DoctorEldritch I actually forgot the remastered version was released, I'm so out of touch with game releases these days. Definitely going to check it out.

Most of the ghost-hunting series is just for entertainment purposes and nothing is really what it seems. True invokers of spirits and demons do it in secrecy. This is more the occult part and will never be shown on tv.

It's best not to wander on that path and I don't think the ghost hunters would really want uninvited guests following them home.

I could purchase Brutal Legends again I guess. Would be fun to play it again. Will go have a look. 😊

@DracoTarot I don't think they made a big deal out of it when they released it. But it was still a nice gesture. Some of the mechanics were improved, and outdated in-game commercials were removed, but it stayed very close to the original.

I wonder why the secrecy, though? I can understand the need for secrecy in the past when they could burn you on a stake for practicing communicating with spirits, but these days people are less radical. Though that whole concept was made fun of in comedy often, Extraordinary being the most recent.

I wonder if ghosts can follow someone home. Unless they are haunting a specific person, aren't they sort of "bound" to a specific location?

Brutal Legend was a nice game, though nice was enough for me. And it left me with the impression that it was rushed at the end. But it is god to return to it if you like metal.

@DoctorEldritch Spirits are not always "bound" to a specific spot or location. There are many cases where people investigated locations and took some objects home with them they found. The spirit can also use an object as a vessel to travel from one location to another. Some ghost hunters had no hauntings in their own homes and afterwards reported they suddenly experiencing strange events that weren't happening before. When the object is moved to another location the events stopped and continued in at the new location.

I added Brutal Legend to my games library. My bud gifted me his copy. 🙂

@DracoTarot This is still the principle of being bound to something, even a portable object, though. I can see that being the case. What I meant was, can ghosts just decide to move locations on their own?

Usually, they are bound to a place or a person or, as you said, an object, but I wonder if there are those that can freely wander from place to place just "haunting around". You do not hear about those that much or that often, famous ghosts seem to like to stick to one place.

Have you seen Lockwood & Co. series? It is ongoing and based on a series of 5 books (the book series is complete) and taps into the ghosthunting profession in an interesting way (and more traditional than Ghostbuster gadgetry):

That is nice of your bud to do that. Does he also like metal music?

@DoctorEldritch I'm not entirely sure if spirits are able to move to another location on their own. I know the term "wandering spirits" are mentioned from time to time. Maybe a ghost can manifest somewhere else without being attached to an object or person.

I have never seen Lockwood and Co. It's a series I would most definitely watch. I like when they focus more on traditional methods in movies especially when the theme is paranormal.

Technology needs to be used aside now and again to find balance.

@DracoTarot It may be that they may be "wandering spirits" in a specific, but relatively large area, maybe? There are examples like that, take Flying Dutchman. It would normally appear near the coast of Australia but could manifest in a relatively large zone.

Or Lincoln's Funeral Train, the ghost of that can appear anywhere on the train way of the original funeral trip, even those that were demolished since then. Which also covers a relatively large area.

Though these are examples of ghost transport vehicles rather than people, by nature they may follow different rules.

@DracoTarot Iiked Lockwood and Co., @LilySensei advised it to me. And the book series is also good, the author is known for being thorough in his universe designs. Though his most favorite series would probably be the Bartimaeus Sequence, that one is about djinns.
