    Hello Legion Gamers!

The Month of Sci-fi and Fantasy is rolling out today, and it is a good day for it, too! Because today is Paranormal Day!

As it happens, all paranormal stuff has a special day dedicated to it. And there are many paranormal, too! Aliens, ghosts, demons, and even creatures like chupacabra all fit in this very broad group. Almost feels like Spring Halloween. 👽 👻 👿

As the Paranormal is such a diverse topic, I hope to talk about some of the most famous examples in the upcoming weeks as the month of Sci-fi and Fantasy gains steam. But this time, I wanted to start by asking if anyone has a favorite game about paranormal and supernatural, or played a good one recently?

And there are many to choose from here as well! Some of you may remember Phasmophobia which we played on Halloween, it is very Poltergeist. Though I personally prefer less scary Ghostbusters.

Or there are some good examples of this in the Visual Novel genre as well, for example, PARANORMASIGHT, a Japanese-style horror. @Saka, could be an addition to your VN pile?

Personally, the game I played most recently that touched on this is Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Maybe a bit dated now, but it was the last Paranormal game I played, and it recently got an update that introduced new content, so is relevant still. The gameplay is a bit simplistic, but the game draws from Japanese folklore and has a parade of typical ghosts and monsters, I found the immersion enjoyable.

So that would be my pick. What about you, do any supernatural games come to mind?

@DoctorEldritch I played No Way Out a while back. It is a single-player psychological horror.

Paranormal activity is on the rise and it’s up to you to get rid of it and get the hell out of the house.

No Way Out has an abundance of jump scares and fun to play.

@DracoTarot This does look scary. Ghostwire: Tokyo is not as scary as it is shooter, not horror, so you are not defenseless. With a game like No Way Out, I'd rather play it as a coop with someone, I think.

@DoctorEldritch If you are looking for a nice Co-op horror game Paranormal Hunter would be a good choice.

@DracoTarot That is good, but maybe too scary. Somehow I prefer games that are not one-sided. Like Midnight Ghost Hunt, there you can play with friends as either ghost or ghost hunter:

Though it is still in Early Access. Once it's done and ready, it could be a nice addition for GameTogether nights.

@DoctorEldritch Midnight Ghost Hunt reminds me of the series Paranormal Nightmare. The investigators were a bit different from the others. The tools they used to provoke the spirits and demons were more in traditional manner.

@DracoTarot what do you mean traditional? Traditional to me seems calling a priest and performing an exorcism. Midnight Ghost Hunt has more of a "serious ghostbusters" vibe to me, with all those tech gadgets...

@DoctorEldritch the ghost hunters in Paranormal Nightmare do use gadgets but most of the time they will use Ouija boards, salt circles, pentacles and even the Aztech death whistle. On a few occasions, they had a Priest to cleanse a house.

@DracoTarot Interesting. Seems a variety of tools, though it is confusing to me in the sense that, as far as I know, tools like the Ouija board is used to contact and communicate with ghosts, not get rid of them. The salt circle is for protection and pentacle has a range of effects depending on the symbols you use, so those can be used when removing the spirit.

And Aztech death whistle, I think, is not a ritual but rather a warfare tool to diminish enemy morale. A bit like Howling Banshees in Warhammer 40K Universe.

Seems that guys in Paranormal Nightmare like to be prepared for any scenario.

@DoctorEldritch The main goal of the show is to make contact and find out what they are dealing with. If the spirits occupying the residence are of no harm the investigator will try to find out why they choose to haunt instead of moving on. Then they would use tools to help them crossover.

If they are dealing with demons and evil spirits, the salt circle and pentagram are used to protect and banish.

The producers mentioned they didn't want to create a show where they only depend on noises and an occasional door moving on its own. They wanted more.

You are correct! The Aztech death whistle was used during warfare. According to investigators, the death whistle can also be used to provoke spirits and demons. The Howling Banshee sound irritates a restless soul and usually, they would respond aggressively or show some sort of sign they are present.

In a sense, the whistle is used for spiritual warfare these days instead of actual war.

I don't know if you ever played or heard about Curse of the Aztecs. Never Played the game myself.
