    Hello Legion Gamers!

Today is World Speech Day, and I thought I'd try something new and introduce a Legion Nordic Soapbox thread!

The Soapbox, traditionally, is a raised platform on which one stands to make an impromptu speech, kind of like this:

The subject of the speech would differ, but would often be something that annoys the speaker and allowed the speaker to vent. So I thought that it would be good to have a place like that here in the Nordic Community as well where everyone could take a stand and tell everyone about something in the world that could do with a bit of improvement.

But not all topics would fit here: please keep in mind our Community Guidelines and avoid complaining about politicians, no matter how tempting or justified it may be. In addition, a place for feedback about Lenovo products is on the Discussions & Feedback board, and anything annoying about games (like how there are not enough PS/Xbox games being ported to PC, what gives?) would fit in the Gaming board.

But everything else is fair game. And it can be as short or long as you like. Here is a small example:

Annoyed with the declining quality of Netflix shows? Tell us about it! Sad that your favourite breakfast cereal is discontinued? Let it be known! Sad that after the Hindenburg we stopped using blimps (that's mine, I mean, come on, we did not stop using ships after Titanic. Bring back the blimps!)? The floor is yours! And, if you have an idea about how to fix whatever problem is bothering you, you can share the possible solution as well!

So if you need a place to let a world's imperfection be known to the world, or just want a bit of venting, feel free to partake!

@DoctorEldritch There is something I can vent about a little and thank you for this thread.

It's more of a question that is open for debate. My question focuses on games and most movies. Netflix is one of the culprits if I must be honest.

My question is, why does almost every movie these days kick off with a drone shot from above while the actors are on the way to their destination either in a vehicle of some sort or on foot? The actors are also most of the time surrounded by a whole bunch of trees like in a plantation or forest.

Then they always seem to arrive at a cabin or house in the middle of nowhere. The last eight movies I've watched all have the same scripted intros. Is it some kind of new rule in the film industry or do the directors pass on the same script to another only to change the storyline a bit and the scenario stays the same?

@DracoTarot 8 movies in a row is statistically very definitive, but makes me think that it could have something to do with your selection? Certain genres have cliches associated with them, and maybe this style of filming is one of them? What movies and shows are you talking about exactly?

@DoctorEldritch It may be by coincidence each movie started or later in the movie has a drone scene. I must say if you take the genres into consideration they were all different. The movies I've watched were a mixture between action, company, drama and horror. So the drone shots are not limited to one specific genre.

I guess filmmakers use drones to Enhance the visual experience and to capture scenes and their surroundings, making sure the vision is clear and it's easy to start a movie off that way.

It's just weird the filmmakers would use the same boring intro.

@DracoTarot I guess it became trendy. First, it was novel (as drones themselves), and people liked it for the freshness factor, and now everyone is doing it. This happens quite often in creative industries, like how many superhero films always have this giant sky beam.

@DoctorEldritch I'll bet from now on those scenes are going to attract your attention. 😂

@DoctorEldritch You mentioned the Titanic. After 25 years of denial, numerous fan debates, and a few scientific reenactments, Titanic director James Cameron has finally admitted that Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) might have been able to survive the maritime disaster — though not necessarily by climbing up alongside Rose (Kate Winslet) on the infamous door.

What do you think it's plausible or possible?

@DracoTarot Possibly, I will be more aware of them 😅 Although, I just had a bit of an anime phase, and I actually like landscape shots in those, though they are rarely drone ones that you describe. But that is over now and I am back to the live series. But, maybe because I am more into sitcoms, there are not many shots like this. The last non-sitcom I watched was Obi-Wan Kenobi, I do not recall those shots there... But I'll definitely spot them if I see them now.

@DracoTarot Oh, I've seen this picture before. And I think I must've read several articles about that door! 😂
@DoctorEldritch Would the topic of accessibility fit the soapbox? I tried reviving this thread a while ago, but got no responses at all.

@Saka Oh my, this is a bit of a blast from the past, thank you for bringing it up again! I'd say accessibility in games is a more serious issue and deserves its own thread that you revived, but you may certainly vent about it here as well, it is an issue worth discussing and not in just one place, either.

@DracoTarot Jack didn't have to die, that door had plenty of room. But it is very Hollywood to abandon logic for the sake of drama.

But, at least, we get things like this:
