Out of nowhere, Bandai-Namco announces a new game from the Dragon Ball license belonging to the Budokai Tenkaichi series. As a reminder, there were 3 Budokai Tenkaichi episodes on PS2 between 2005 and 2007, which were named differently in Japan, it was called "Sparking!" with, in order, "Sparking!", "Sparking! Neo" and "Sparking! Meteor" which explains the presence of the word "Sparking!" in the (Japanese) trailer below.

It shouldn't be a remaster like the one we had in 2012 on PS3 with "Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection", nor a remake for that matter, the only transformation of Goku into Super Saiyajin Blue should be enough to explain it to the most skeptical.

Unfortunately, we have no information on the date or the platforms that should host the game, but we can without too much risk count on at least the current gen of consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series as well as the PC.

You can find down below the English trailer, which was broadcast live during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 competition.

What do you think of this surprise announcement?

@GoLLuM13 I have to confess, I never played or watched anything from this franchise, or Pokemon either. I am afraid I only know the Yokai Watch franchise because I was translating it for Nintendo some years back. So when I read about all those characters or watch the trailer I get like this:

But good news for the fans. 2023 so far seems rich in franchise-based releases: we had Hogwarts Legacy, Gollum and Return to Moria are coming, and so is Jedi: Survivor, and Japan-based franchises are in tow with One Piece Odyssey, and now this too. I wonder which franchise will get the spotlight next.

@DoctorEldritch Don't forget the "Naruto x Boruto..." too long to write it 🤣
I was thinking that there were many versus fighting games coming back too, with Street Fighter 6, and probably Tekken 8

@GoLLuM13 Naruto too, though I have not seen any of that either. When it comes to anime, I am more into short-finished stories. I can do maybe 3 seasons, but longer than that and I start thinking "same thing but more of it, it is stagnation I smell?" There are exceptions, of course, but what I mean is I like stories that have a proper ending.

As for fighters, does seem that way, though I do not play them, so do not follow what is happening there too closely. But variety is often a good thing, especially if games have a strong lineage with figures like 6 or 8 after their names.
