Unlike Windows 10 which had 2 major updates, Windows 11 only has one (at the end of the year). Due to this new cycle, Microsoft has introduced "Moment" updates which are cumulative updates that introduce new features, this allows us to have new features without having to go through a major update that, very often, involve significant changes.

The Windows Moment 2 update, with its real (barbaric) name KB5022913, has been available since February 28th, 2023, as an optional update with Windows Update, before becoming mandatory on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023.
After the update, you should have the following Windows 11 22H2 build 22621.1344

With this update we have the famous and numerous monthly bug fixes, but also new features integration, among them:

    • Phone Link becomes compatible with iOS and which now allows you to control your iPhone on Windows 11. (I don't have an iPhone, but here's an illustration of what it looks like with an Android phone)

    • Just like "File Explorer", now "Notepad" gains tabs.

    • The "Task Manager" gains a new feature after a facelift, this time we have a searchable manager, in other words, it has a search bar at the very top, in case you are looking for a specific application or process.

    • The "Screen Capture Tool" can now capture video, which will come in handy for some.

    • The new search bar with the conversational module boosted with artificial intelligence, basically, ChatGPT in Microsoft's way. However, there is a big "but", it is only accessible if you are on the waiting list, and you are chosen for this option

However, if you use third-party tools for UI Customization, such as "ExplorerPatcher" and "StartAllback", it is advisable to uninstall them before updating, otherwise your computer will be unusable and Windows will have to be reinstalled. Windows is aware of the problem, but it's up to the developers of the third-party applications to find a solution, moreover the version of StartAllback 3.5.6 (and later) is supposed to fix the problem.

PS: Sorry for the screenshots in French, but my O.S. is in French, however the elements the article talks about are easily distinguishable

@GoLLuM13 I wonder how many of our members actually use Windows 11? Personally, I am still at Windows 10, I just find it easier at the moment, not sure how popular is this outlook, though. @Saka, as a programmer, what version are you using?

@DoctorEldritch I use Windows 11, in my opinion if your hardware is officially supported, there's no reason not to upgrade. Performance difference in games is minimal and can go both ways, depending on the hardware and specific title. Nothing significant.

@Saka For me, it is more about the design. I get used to a particular layout, and Windows 11 moved the menu from the usual place to the bottom "a la Mac", and you need to look up how to change that and make everything like you're used to, and I do not like doing that.

@DoctorEldritch On the other hand, Windows 11 unified the design of many setting menus, so finally you don't feel all the time like you are doing time travel through 3 different Windows versions with the xp style, then W7 and finally W10 menus.

@DoctorEldritch I did a poll last year and obviously not many, even if things has probably changed, and with the support of W10 coming to an end in October 2025 (Windows 12 will probably be there) things will probably change even more in terms of adoption. And everybody who was on W10 and earlier and will go straight to W12 will probably have to re-learn even more things.
And yes, we have to admit that the adoption of W11 has been slowed by some factors, the most obvious one, the system requirements, the list of CPUs + the TPM 2.0 is the biggest brake IMHO (that didn't stop me to install it on old PCs though, and it worked and still work like a charm so far). The other issue is the "bad press", I saw so many negative articles and comments that make a person think that W11 is the worst thing ever, while it's not, people just don't like to change their habits, that's it (that's normal). Speaking of which, I could go from the centered to the old classic left layout in exactly 5 clicks (counting both right and left clicks).
And as @Saka pointed it out, while it's not perfect (it's still a WIP) it's the most coherent design that we have so far on a Windows

@GoLLuM13 I guess I am more old-fashioned in my approach and have difficulty adapting to changes. I like my Windows to be "classic design, just like your granny used to use". Where everything may not be as convenient, but everything is familiar.

I guess I should really try to keep up with the pace of the unstoppable march of progress.

@DoctorEldritch I'll give you my method of guinea-pig 😛 before adopting any new OS on my machine, because I start with my desktop PC, before installing it anywhere else. I start trying it on a Virtual Machine, I use VMWare, but you can also use Virtual Box. While I won't know if there is any incompatibility with my actual hardware, it gives me a chance to try the new interface, see the new options, hear the new sounds and maybe the time get used to it and compare it to the actual OS I have.

PS: I forgot to mention something on my previous reply, this is not about Outlook, it's the "Task Manager" the design recently changed in Windows 11 with vertical tabs. I just typed Outlook on the new search bar, which is the real novelty, I wanted to show that now we can use it to search for an opened app or process and I used a familiar name (outlook).

@GoLLuM13 with me is more about getting used to the new design and where all the familiar functions are rather than actual technical performance. I tend to spend some time tailoring windows to the way I am comfortable with, and changing it means I need to do that all over again.

To make matters worse, I am not familiar with functionality from the start, for example, I did not know that you could make a "My Computer" shortcut directly through the Control Panel, I was usually making it manually with the "make a shortcut" function in the dropdown menu. And there are many little things like that. Too bad that you may not know about such functions, so even watching tutorials may not help because you do not know if you are looking for anything specific.
