@DracoTarot I do not have that sort of sensitivity, touching objects does nothing for me. But I do get some smell sensations from them, though I think it's just that old things have that particular smell to them that comes with old age.

Then again, my aunt visited me and brought me some kitchen towels, and they all smell like her house, which I associate with childhood because I would spend a lot of time there as a kid, so now I have a set of towels with a smell of nostalgia. Makes me not want to wash them, which kind of compromises the purpose of the kitchen towel, but oh well.

@DoctorEldritch You may the gift of Clairolfaction. The gift of psychic smell!

I do not know if you had the same experience when you were a child. My grandmother always had mothballs in her closet and when she came to visit or we went for a visit the smell of mothballs was all over the place. Her clothes permanently smelled like mothballs.

We do not use mothballs but every now and then I smell mothballs in our house. I think she visits us now and then in spirit.

I get nostalgia from certain smells too and then the memories play again in my head.

@DracoTarot I would not say it as far as Clairolfaction, I just read somewhere that smell is the most memory-inducing sense, it is easier for the smell to induce memories than it is to sight or even sound, or so some research claims. I'd think me and @Saka are subject to this effect.

@DoctorEldritch I recall reading that somewhere too! But the rest eludes my memory. 😁

@Saka Maybe if you smell something that you smelled when reading it, like an old book, it may help you remember the rest? 😅

@DoctorEldritch Given that odours enhance the retrieval of autobiographical memories and can trigger trauma-related flashbacks, I wouldn't suggest being in a hot humid room with some friends at a LAN party who frequently cuts the cheese.

It would leave a person scared for life and lead to PTSD like in my case. That's why I avoid gatherings altogether. 😂😅😶

Getting back to the original subject matter I'm busy downloading Hogwarts Legacy: Deluxe Edition and it's an 85gig download. My internet is so slow and downloading at 1.8 Mbps. Definitely gonna take a while.

@DracoTarot That sounds bad. Luckily for me, I avoid parties because I do not like loud music. So I would hope I am in the clear on that front as I've never been to one.

Good luck with Hogwarts Legacy, hope that there are no blackouts or interruptions that would impede that process.

@DoctorEldritch I'm downloading the game in intervals. Blackouts are an issue and we do have one coming up from six until eight tonight. The slow internet speeds including the blackouts add an additional 4 hours to the download.

I'm supposed to download the game within 2 or at most 3 hours. I'm sure it's going to take 8 hours at least.

We call it LAN parties and it's not really an actual party. Just a bunch of guys getting together and hooking up their PCs to share some files and play games against each other. No one does it anymore these days. It's more convenient to go online for a match or two.

@DracoTarot Hopefully you get enough warning to plan around those blackouts. I had a blackout during a download once, and the file transfer got corrupted, had to download it all over again. Though it was some years ago, hopefully, these days there are failsafe against something like that.

Never been to a LAN party either, though I guess when I was working for Activision it could be called that way, when we needed to test how matches worked the whole office team of 15 people would play a match, the whole office. It was mostly for work, but it was still fun.

That being said, I think people still play in groups 2-4 from the same sofa with controllers sometimes? Fighting games and the like? Not sure if it counts as a party...
