    Hello Legion Gamers!

Hogwarts Legacy is (almost) here: those who went for Deluxe Edition can start playing today, and the rest can enroll into the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this Friday (10th of February). Or, those like me who always wait for "all DLC-included GOTY edition", will have to avoid spoilers and learn magic a tad later.

But whether you play it already, or will on the 10th, or any time later, exciting time to be a gamer. The game is a treasure trove of easter eggs and references for Harry Potter fans, and for those who are not, it is still exciting gameplay. According to rumors, the game will have 26 spells to master (including the infamous Unforgivable Curses), over 100 side quests, and a variety of magic classes. And you'll get to fly a broom!

As we anticipate the release, I thought it would be interesting to compare House and common room preferences. Rumor has it that, at the beginning of the game, players will need to choose a House that they will belong to, and this choice will stick throughout the whole game.

And this choice is more than just a setting: each House will have different missions (apparently Gryffindor may have the most and Ravenclaw the least), which can bring the replayability of the game up as you need 4 playthroughs to see everything (hello, Nier: Automata 😉). And only members of the corresponding House will have access to the House's common room. And there are 4 unique common rooms to choose from, check them out:

Herein lies the problem: you may like one House and the common room of a different House. So I thought, why not compare notes? Me, for example, I always thought of myself as a Ravenclaw. But their common room, impressive though it is, is too bright and expansive for me. I could not get any learning done in such an open area😉

Hufflepuff is a bit too Hobbiton for me (I think I mentioned it during one of the game nights before), and Gryffindor is a bit too common (and, to be fair, was overexposed in films and previous games, so there is no novelty element to it.

So it so happened that, while being Ravenclaw at heart, I'd actually prefer Slytherin's common room. Darker blueish ambiance, secluded corners. If not for the serpent motif that I do not like, it'd be the perfect place to concentrate and study.

I guess with a preference like this, I am on my way to becoming an Evil Scientist Magician. Oh well, someone had to invent the Imperius Curse, so...

What about you, does your favorite common room from the game match your preferred Hogwarts House?

I actually like Ravenclaw's common room. The level of brightness is perfect for keeping me awake and letting me study. The Slytherin common room has a magnificent vibe to it, but it's soo dark. I'd just fall asleep on my pile of books.

The Hufflepuff commmon room is sort of cute, but a bit too cluttered for me perhaps. It feels cosy, but a bit distracting for studying.

@Saka I do not like big rooms like that with a lot of windows and open space. Imagine a sunny day, you'd have nowhere to hide from the heat. And during sunset whole room would be lit, which is, admittedly, beautiful at the end when the sun sets, and may generally be nice for the first 10 minutes or so when it starts, but most of the time it would be a room filled with orange light.

I like places with alcoves and secluded places where you can hide from the world and really concentrate. But to each his own.

Also, about the Hufflepuff room, is it me or does it have no windows at all? The lack of natural light is not good. Even the Slytherin room has windows, and it's in the cellar (windows go out into the lake, I presume).

@DoctorEldritch There is some light in the Hufflepuff room coming from high up in the ceiling. Looks like a large window in the middle and some on the sides. A bit hidden though.

Regarding the light on sunny days or sunsets... I lived for nearly two decades in a west-facing room. I am well used to that and it didn't bother me at all unless I wanted to use a screen directly against that light. 😂

@Saka I thought about the roof window too, but it is never shown, you're quite right. Still, only the roof window will still give very limited natural light.

To each his or her own. I get warm and sleepy under the sun. I'd say in Ravenclaw room I'd mostly nap and would not get any learning done. Would probably end up with a nice tan, though.

@DoctorEldritch It's the Hufflepuff room that seems to be the perfect napping place to me.

@Saka If you intend to nap, sure. But to doze off when you want to study is counterproductive.

@DoctorEldritch So I need the bright sun grilling my face to prevent me from dozing off while studying!

@Saka I can't read that well under the sun, I need properly situated lighting.

@DoctorEldritch Fair enough. For me the light is not a problem, I actually like Finnish summer when it never gets dark (at my latitude) and you can watch a sunrise around 3ish a.m.
