This year's first Steam Hardware Survey Poll results have been published. It's a poll targeting random users, the trigger for causing it to pop up is still unknown. For example I only got it once, last year, quite out of the blue, because it was on a new laptop, but not when I first got it, rather some months later. The results for January can be found here.
The results are not really surprising, the most popular teams among users are older, mid-range equipment. Compared to the previous month, you can see a larger number of physical processor cores (the number of 8 cores and more has increased), a little less hexa-cores. That's the tier average gamer is actually buying, contrary to what you can see in the social media. 😁
It certainly doesn't help when a 4070Ti costs about a thousand euros and the higher tiers are even worse. Thus lower tiers and a lot of second-hand market. On the other hand, the graphics for lower resolutions sort of stagnated. A decent card from five years ago is still likely to run new releases just fine.

As for Nvidia's dominance, they just sell a lot more cards overall. Prebuilds are also typically using Nvidia cards, companies are buying OEMs in bulks.

    Thank you for this subject.

That confirms the actual trend of new games that recommend 16 GB of RAM and a 4 or 6 cores CPU for a 1080p experience, and it goes up to 32 GB and an 8 cores CPU for 1440p and more.

And no wonder that nVidia is in the top, it's the most popular brand for gaming, and it was more accessible than now, most of the cards on the top 20 are from nVidia (except 3, two from Intel and one from AMD) and most of these cards are from the 10 and 16/20 series (which places us before the shortage and the scalping) and we can also find cards from 3050 to 3080 which weren't the most expensive cards either especially after the price drop (exception made for the 3080 during the shortage where the price exceeded the 1000€ tag if it wasn't bought in the FE version directly from nVidia or its partners where it was at 719€)
