@DracoTarot Do dragonflies enjoy that heat?

@DoctorEldritch It seems they do like the warmer weather. I notice them more during heatwaves. When it colder not so much.

@DracoTarot Dragonflies that we get where I live like to have some body of water nearby, like a river or a lake. Are yours the same?

@DoctorEldritch we do have a small ravine and also a few draining ditches close by. Some are covered in reeds making it more of a wetland.

@DracoTarot I think wetlands are good for them too. But on the subject of hobbies, do you take pictures of insects often?

@DoctorEldritch I came up with the LEGO on my own. I have some sets laying around that need building anyway. Currently I am fighting with a treehouse. It has about twenty bags of parts. I heard that @Aaricia got that set too and it is still waiting for her in the box. 😂

Big LEGO sets are really good fun, I love the little details you can find everywhere... but it is a lot of work too. I can't just brute force my way through, at least not with the table I have. My shoulders and neck end up killing me after a longer session. Maybe if I had an adjustable table it would be different. A bit of standing and less of stooping over the little pieces. Alas that's not going to happen in the foreseeable future.

I actually sometimes do work together with my SO. Yesterday I helped him fix a piece of work code, because I have much better understanding of paradigms and abstract structures. I explained what was the general idea with the problem and he made it work. We are both programmers, but with very different approaches, so it works better if we are not trying to work on the same thing at the same time. It actually is a bit like that in general, we have very different ways of doing things. We used to argue sometimes when cooking, but we gained mutual trust and just learned that as long as the kitchen doesn't look like it was raided and the food is edible as the end result, whatever happens in-between is not important.

I am still lacking confidence in my drawing skills. In general my self-esteem is an issue. I am not sure if I would like to deal with customers and possible complaints. A friend of mine changed her career a few years ago to be an artist and it really affected her schedule. She was working a ton and earning very little at first, once her employer turned out to be a scammer (sort of, complicated drama). In general all the issues of freelance work with very few pros. I think I'd prefer to have just a 9-17 desk work. Especially that for WFH programmers rarely anyone bats an eye if the 9 accidentally ends up being 10 sometimes. Getting up in the morning when there's polar night is... a pain.

About the sock, I think it'd require a change to the entire pattern and while that works for plain socks, it is more difficult for fancier socks. My MIL doesn't mind making a new pair once that's needed, she is aware of the tearing issues. It's not like she has to constantly make new ones, it takes a quite long while before they become unusable.

Should I post a picture of The Groke socks I got a couple of weeks ago?

@DoctorEldritch I do not take pictures of insects often but if I have my camera or mobile nearby and I spot an interesting creepy crawly I'll take a snap or two.

Here is the spider I mentioned before. It's a Golden Weave spider about the size of my palm.

@DracoTarot spider looks nice, very bee-style. Is it the poisonous one?

@DoctorEldritch Their venom is harmless to man. It is not the largest spider but makes the largest and strongest web, deriving its name from the golden colour of its silk. The silk is strong enough to trap small birds which it does not eat but can damage the web.

They even use their silk to manufacture kevlar vests including bulletproof door frames for vehicles. When stretched or pulled, it can absorb more energy than steel or nylon without rupturing.

@DracoTarot that's impressive, how do they harvest the silk, are there spider farms of some sort?
