    Hello Legion Gamers!

Today is Japan Culture Day! A perfect day to remember all games about Japan culture (or from Japan)! And there are many! From the ones that ancient times of Ghost of Tsushima (waiting to be ported to PC) to modern Japan of Yakuza (played and loved, currently on part 4), there a many games that allow us to glimpse into that foreign unique country!

And it does not have to be too realistic either! Want some fantasy elements? Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice may be a choice for all souls-like lovers or, if not, Nioh for those looking to hunt some Onis. Or if it is a modern supernatural Japan you're after, then recent Ghostwire Tokyo is a game to try!

And it's only just scratching the surface, there are games about Japan, from Japan and with Japan in abundance, even if they do not clearly state that, like the cult Ace Attorney (Objection!). Japan has something for everyone!

And this is the place to collect those foreign gems! I'd say, my favorite game about Japan is Yakuza, so much so that I made a separate thread just for it.

What about you, what is your favorite game about Japan?

@M2lobaz We're all waiting for Ghost of Tsushima to come to PC! Q3 of 2023 they say, so not too long now. It is good to know that you're waiting for this game too. And it should be more action-adventure than RPG, too!

The Metal Gears is an intriguing one, I never played it, but I want to try. But a bit like Yakuza or Assassin's Creed series, there are so many games there, and not all are ported to PC, too, so I am not sure where to start. I'd want to go in chronological order. Haven't looked into that series yet, if it has remakes or the like. In general, is it a good series to play?

Tried Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice too, but I got confused that warning signals to either block or evade were all in kanji, I could never understand what to do, so I did not get far before succumbing to frustration. Not a souls player, me. 😅

They say MGS are one of.themost iconic at least you should give it a try have some experience and I highly recommend playing Stealth style it was most likely the first game to introduce Stealth gameplay into gaming industry "Kojima Idea"

@M2lobaz I wonder if they have any remakes of the first parts in the works. The first Metal Gear Solid is older than I am.

@M2lobaz How important is it to play them in sequence, do you have an idea? For example, with Final Fantasy it seems you can start with any part you want, or the Tales series has a new story and characters every game, only loosely connected by the same "multiverse". But Metal Gear Solid seems more plot-oriented for that with a bigger emphasis on continuity?

No idea, I just played MGRR and it was like a standalone part story, but the others I think they're connected considered the main character Solid Snake he presented in most of the franchise games, still you can play MGSV with no knowledge of his past experiences, motivation, cababilities..etc or you can use WIKI Fandom to get a bigger idea.

@M2lobaz It is always tricky when dealing with older games this way. On one hand, you want to experience everything firsthand, but on the other hand, the games are so antiquated by this point it is hard to fully enjoy them on all levels.

The Yakuza series was a bit like that, too, but they put the work into remasters. MGS did not yet, as far as I could see. Maybe they'd benefit from the soft relaunch like Deus Ex did, although after the new diology it did not go anywhere (yet).

I wish MGS would do something with its heritage, it seems to be in fashion now, with Uncharted porting some older games to PC all polished. But at least there is an option to play MGS on PC at all, so feels bad to complain.

This topic reminds me that I have Ōkami that I am yet to play. A bit of an oops, because I used to know quite a lot about Japanese mythology (partly of necessity for some school-related writing).

Ugh, why can't a day have more hours, so that I actually get time to fix my gaming backlog?
